West is The Restoration's first concept album since 2012, told in 10 songs with a 43 minute run-time. It's the story of Ruby and Joe, parents forever altered by a fateful trip across America with their young sons. They happen to have been my grandparents.
We rehearsed for six months before recording the songs live, then spent the next year arranging vocals, orchestrations and textures to bring the story to life. We traveled to nearby Charleston, SC, then all the way to Burlington, Vermont to record harmonies with some of our favorite singers, Alexa Woodward, Tim Eriksen, and The Mobros, each representing one of the album's characters.
The album was then mixed in Atlanta by Collin Derrick (Constance, Honor the Father), and mastered by Grammy-winner Keith Compton in Nashville.

The Packaging You'll Get
The album is done but we need to press and package it. With your help, West on vinyl will include a high-fidelity 180 gram record in a matte-print jacket, and a fold-out 36 x 24" map with lyrics arranged geographically across the U.S., printed on 70lb uncoated paper for a classic finish and texture.
All options $10 and up include 2 songs immediately. Vinyl and digital albums will arrive together at least four months later—release and ship dates will be announced as soon as possible. New songs will be distributed to backers during the wait.
You got us to 80% on the first day, and completed our original goal in just six days. Thank you so much! Now that the vinyl is a go, we've set some new goals that, if reached, will add new items to your pledge at no extra cost to you. Check them out!
Gotta Groove Records
We've chosen Ohio-based Gotta Groove Records for West because of their reputation as a pressing plant with a great quality-assurance process and high attention to detail.
Risks and challenges
We've never done a vinyl release before. A vinyl pre-sale will help us ensure there's an audience for a high quality vinyl release. Pressing a record is expensive and time-consuming. We need to cover a downpayment up front, then wait for up to 6 months for our music to be painstakingly transferred to vinyl by hand before finally being pressed into 300 copies.
With initial recording, overdubs, mixing and mastering already accounted for, we're only aiming to cover the costs of putting out a great vinyl release. With your help we can make that happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
