Socially conscious sneakers made from upcycled leather jackets.
We know that high quality fashion that is sustainable is very hard to come by. And it isn’t cheap either.
That is why we created The ReMaker. Since our beginnings over 14 years ago, we’ve had one goal in mind: to create high quality versatile fashion that reduces waste, is kind to the environment, and improves the lives of Thai children and workers. And all of this at a fair price.
Our products have won multiple awards:
Fast-moving fashion trends are a big problem for the environment. The production of new clothes creates around 20% of the world’s wastewater, as well as 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions. More than this, 3 in every 5 items bought are thrown away within a year- adding to the 21 billion tonnes of textiles annually thrown away in the US alone.
Rather than make our shoes from scratch, we take the time to sift through second-hand leather jackets destined for landfill. We then hand-select the best among these to craft into our shoes. And we do this for important reasons.
New leather is stiff. This means that shoes made from it often cause painful blisters. As the leather used for our shoes has already been worn, it doesn’t need to be broken in. It is both soft and flexible, fitting immediately from the first wear.
All of our shoes are handmade. With over 20 years of experience, our expert team uses traditional Italian techniques to ensure the precision of every measure, cut and stitch. This way, we don’t use energy to power machines and can ensure the highest attention to detail across all of our shoes.
Rather than depend on polluting factories, we have sourced our own team of local artisans who take care of our shoes from hand-selecting the finest leather jackets, to making the finishing touches. This means that we not only reduce transport distances, but we also empower local industry and can ensure fantastic working conditions and fair pay.
Leather production is a heavy-polluting industry. With a significant carbon footprint, the chemicals used for tanning purposes are also known to be carcinogenic. Usually dumped into nearby rivers after usage, these chemicals create health risks for both those working in leather tanneries and those who drink this water further downstream.
By sourcing our leather from second-hand products, we don’t make use of these tanneries, or their chemicals. We also reduce our carbon footprint and of course, don’t kill any animals in the process.
This means that our shoes:
Sometime we recognise that we can’t use upcycled materials. And so, we take care in using natural, locally-sourced and organic materials wherever we can.
Our rubber is a good example of this. Locally sourced and 100% organic, it has been carefully selected for both its flexibility and durability.
Our waxed shoelaces are made from 100% locally-sourced organic cotton.
Even our shoe boxes are made from 100% recycled paper and cardboard to both ensure the security of your shoes as well as reduce their environmental footprint.
Our dust bag is also made from 100% locally-sourced organic cotton and is free from chemical dyes.
Made for both men and women, the Bangkokian is available in five color options:
Over 1 million children in Thailand can not afford shoes. This means that they often must walk barefoot over long distances on dirt tracks, through forests and over rocky mountain ranges just to go to school.
We want to change this. For every pair of shoes that you buy, one pair of our shoes will be donated to a child in disadvantaged schools around the country.
This way, we can reduce the financial burden on their families to pay for these shoes, and ensure that they have access to high quality, long-lasting, comfortable shoes.
One for you, and one for them.
REUSABLE DUST BAG
As a special offer to our early bird backers, we offer up to 35% off our sneakers before their official launch. We have also offer each of our supporters a special thank you gift, a 100% organic cotton, reusable dust bag with every order. Ideal for daily use, it’s comfortable and secure- the perfect accompaniment to the Bangkokian.

If we reach HKD150,000 or $20,000 in funding, you will be able to choose your own color combinations for the Bangkokian!
Thank you for your support.
Risks and challenges
We began preparations for the project over two years ago, having watched and studied Kickstarter campaigns for over three years. During this time, we also conducted countless tests to ensure that both our materials and designs are not only comfortable and durable, but also versatile and fashionable. A considerable amount of time was spent in this process to find a design that intersects all four factors.
Well-established with our production team ready to go, we have the groundwork and experience needed to deliver. This in mind, we have set a personal challenge for ourselves. Since 2012, we managed to donate over 30,000 school bags from our production team to disadvantaged children across Thailand. We aim to donate as many shoes to disadvantaged children as possible with our campaign.
Orders from 'backers' are no real 'purchases' per se, but rather a contribution with a 'reward' in return for believing in and for funding the project. That's why refunds of contributions are not available for our project on this platform.
The support we get from our backers is what enables us to grow and choose crowdfunding as our business model.
