On the day the pirates came, the small colony you grew up in was destroyed. In a manner of minutes your loved ones were dead and your home engulfed in flame. Without any hope of victory, you put your faith in an old shuttle from the junk yard you worked in, hoping it would hold together long enough for an escape. It did, only now you found yourself alone in space, without a home or a family. Fueled by a burning desire for vengeance, you set out to build a new life. Only the Salvager's Guild holds enough power to take on the dreaded pirate kings, and so you've made it your goal to join their ranks as a Salvage Trader…
In Salvage Trader, you play a survivor and aspiring member of the Salvager's Guild. This organization of merchants control what little organized trade is left in a post war galaxy, and the only hope of anyone dreaming of taking on the pirates.
Basic gameplay consists of exploring the galaxy, collecting resources, playing mini games, interacting with other space travelers, completing missions, gathering lore and upgrading your ship along the way.
For starters, it is being developed for Mac OS X and if funding is successful, Windows 8 will be added.
The funding will allow me to take the game from beta to release. That means adding great, original art and music, fleshing out the universe and story line, polishing the mini games and all the other in-game features. Funding also includes necessary software licenses.
The basic funding breaks down like this: One third will go to fulfilling rewards and processing fees, another third will make it possible to flesh out the features already in place, and the rest will go towards licenses, artwork and music to be used in the game.
And then there are the stretch goals!

The finished game will be more polished and pleasing to the eye.
$11,000 - Official Soundtrack
We will have at least 30 minutes of original music!
$13,500 - Extended storyline and lore
More missions to complete, more lore to uncover.
$15,000 - Additional mini game!

The following stretch goals would be fulfilled after the initial launch of the game, in order to stay on track with a December release.
$17,000 - NPC Quests!
Side quests will be available via NPCs, adding to the sandbox element.
$20,000 - A grander galaxy!
The entire galaxy game map will be expanded with more of everything!
$35,000 - Maximum FTL!
I quit my Day Job to work exclusively on making Salvage Trader all it can be. I will expand on this if it becomes at all relevant.
Risks and challenges
Time is always the enemy with projects like this. This is especially true when more people become involved in the process (such as artists and composers). That said, the goal is to have a release ready about 4 months after the Kickstarter ends. Content that for whatever reason might not be ready at release time, will be added in a subsequent update of the game.
Distributing downloads of the game will be first priority as soon as the game is ready. After that comes distributing of the remaining rewards. This will be done in waves, starting with the highest level supporters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
