A story of six students who dreamt of travelling the world, challenging themselves and the creative industry.
Imagine that you could create a company that was fit to your needs. Imagine that you could fly to a new country every week. Imagine that you could work with brands like Facebook, Coca-Cola, YSL and Condé Nast.
That is exactly what the six Hyper Island students did.
What is The Pop Up Agency?
Pop Up. You have probably heard the word before. Maybe pop up shop or from visiting a pop up museum. A lot can be associated with the word, but there is one thing all the concepts have in common: achieving more in a shorter period of time and flowing effortlessly from one dimension into another. That is what the six students did. They took the pop up concept into the communication and advertising industry. They believe in shorter processes for a better outcome. What they do is solve briefs in 48 hours.
They work with startups, companies and agencies around the world. After working for 48 hours these young creatives deliver a concept or a strategy focused on the client’s need. Then they fold up and move on to the next challenge. After a couple of successful projects in Sweden, they wanted to take this further. From March till June they wanted to test their method with an extreme experiment, The Pop Up Tour. Their goal was to work with 15 clients, in 15 different countries during 15 weeks.
What is this film about?
‘We Pop Up’ is a story about six young creatives who had a common dream and made it a reality. Six students that wanted to challenge themselves and the industry with new ways of working. It's a story about overcoming fears, about friendship, culture clashes, teamwork, perseverance and growing up.
Its about how they accomplished 27 projects, in 15 cities, in 3 continents while working for some of the most innovative companies in the world, all this in one year.
Why a film?
The Pop Up Agency thought about making a documentary since the first day the idea of their agency came about. The reason why, is because “sharing” is at the center of the vision of The Pop Up Agency. So, without yet knowing how they would make it possible, they filmed a big amount of footage during the 3 months world tour.
"Earlier this summer, I went to a conference in Barcelona, hosted by The Pop Up Agency.
I immediately felt a strong connection with this group of people and their story, so I proposed them to make a documentary about their journey and here I am today."

‘We pop up’ is a movie about six characters coming from very different backgrounds and cultures. Filled with ambition, they will embark on an unexpected journey that they would never have dreamed of.

Why we need you?
The Pop Up Agency is now a real-life start-up company based in London. As any start-up company, it has limited resources to fund personal, non-profit projects. This is why we are asking for support to make this film a reality.
The funds we raise will pay for the following:
– production of new interviews of the Pop Up Agency founders, collaborators and clients.
– post-production, color grading
– music composition and rights

The challenges for this project are minimal. Our timeplan allows us to pivot in another direction when it’s needed. There is already a huge amount of footage already filmed, but we need to film more. As we want to do even more interviews with The Pop Up Agency and the people they have met and worked with along the way to make the story even stronger. We need the financial backup as many of the people are located outside of the UK and we need to travel to their location. If that isn’t possible we have a global team of people that will be able to help us get our goal.
Our challenges, therefore, do not have to do with whether or not the film is successfully produced, but how high the production of the last parts will be. With our goal of £7.000 we will be able to make an professionally-crafted film. We will keep our backers updated if by any chance we would come across any unexpected challenges.
