LIGHTSAIL 2 POWER MONITORING
LightSail 2 power levels are monitored in a clean room at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Aw, Snap! LightSail 2 Slips

Our embedded LightSail reporter, Jason Davis, updated us earlier this month on LightSail happenings. In his blog, Jason shared that officials representing STP-2—the Air Force payload that is giving Prox-1 and LightSail 2 a free ride to orbit—told us the Falcon Heavy won't fly until at least November 30, which is a full month later than our last projected launch date. In the meantime, LightSail 2 will be sitting patiently in storage, getting a battery top-off every now and then before it’s ready to rejoin Prox-1 and ship to Florida.

And when it flies, you'll be invited to join us...

All Planetary Society members and LightSail backers will be invited to join us at Kennedy Space Center to experience history being made. Details are still being finalized, but we will offer members and backers a number of opportunities that may include meet-up-style meals at local restaurants, a members-only mission briefing, and access to tickets to see the launch from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center. Our family-friendly events will be scheduled over a 2-day period.

And, of course, backers who selected rewards such as "Party at the Launch," "Hang at the Pad," and "Let's Do Launch" will get a more fully curated experience.

To stay current on the LightSail developments, go to sail.planetary.org. Can’t wait for November and want to grab some LightSail 2 swag now? Head over to planetary.org/store to check out T-shirts, patches, pins, and more.

Wish you had grabbed a "Let's Do Launch" reward?

Well, you might still have a chance. We’ve teamed up with Omaze once again this year, to offer another lucky winner a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Yes, you could join Bill at Cape Canaveral to witness the launch of LightSail 2 on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy as VIP!

It will be truly an experience to remember, and YOU can win the chance to join Bill and have a front-row seat. And not only that, you’ll also get lunch with Bill and attend a VIP dinner with fellow space explorers.

Just vsit omaze.com/bill to make your donation and a chance to win. Every gift supports The Planetary Society and projects like LightSail.

And to show our appreciation to all LightSail backers, you'll also get 100 bonus entries to win when you use the code LIGHTSAIL at checkout before midnight tomorrow. That’s 100 more chances to lunch and launch with Bill, attend a VIP dinner with space explorers, and create even more impact for the Society.

To redeem your promo code, click the "add promo code" link before you submit payment and enter your code. Offer valid through 11:59 PM 08/31/18 PT for entries to the Bill Nye experience only.
