A quick update on a couple rewards...

...about a very popular reward and a reward that just became more valuable.

Wow! The LightSail Tool Sets flew off the shelves! I just spoke with Rex, CEO of Ecliptic Enterprise Corporation, and we figured out that we could accommodate five more tool sets as part of their work this fall. I believe there will be significant interest, so to be fair to people who might have been waiting for something like this, I will make these available this evening at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. These will be the last ones available, except for those included in the Lunch with a LightSail Engineer reward. We are sorry we can do more, but to try might become disruptive to the process itself.

Along those lines, we inadvertently omitted a special bonus in the Lunch with a LightSail Engineer reward: a copy of the new book The Interstellar Age: Inside the Forty-Year Voyager Mission autographed by our Society President, Dr. Jim Bell. That reward language should have read:

LUNCH WITH A LIGHTSAIL ENGINEER!

Curious to see the lab where LightSail-B is being crafted? Head on out to Pasadena for a tour of Ecliptic Enterprise Corporation to see the work in progress this fall, and then head out to lunch at one of Pasadena’s famous eateries. While you are here, we’ll give you a tour of The Society’s new HQ, too. At the end of this exciting day, you’ll walk away with selfies with one or more of the engineers and Planetary Society staff; a copy of the book The Interstellar Age: Inside the Forty-Year Voyager Mission, autographed by our President, Jim Bell; the signature photo of LightSail in Space autographed by the mission team engineers; a tool set actually used to work on LightSail-B; and some very cool memories. That’s in addition to:

  • Backers-only email updates
  • Digital Donor badge to share via social media
  • CENTIMETER OF SAIL rewards (with either (a) the LightSail Mission sticker and pin combo, or (b) a LightSail Mission patch)
  • Your name to space.

Note that his invitation is for one person, and does not include a guest or the transportation, lodging or food for your journey other than the lunch itself.

It really is a super-cool opportunity, with our without the book. And, you get a tool set!

See you at 7 p.m. for the release of the tools...

      Thank you Bill,
But just to clarify, as this is a limited item (the toolset) surely it needs to be allocated at the time of the pledge.

@Gordon - yes, just "manage" your pledge to add the amount, and then in the post-campaign survey process, you call allocate the amount to this purpose. If any issues arise, just email Richard Chute, Director of Development, at richard.chute@planetary.org. Thank you for supporting LightSail!

Is there any way to get this add-on without changing my current pledge which is already a limited item (The ChopShop poster tier). I'd be delighted to grab one of the upcoming 5 sets.

COOL. Wish I could afford them! Hahah!
