Popcorn - The People App
Social media has become an epidemic. Popcorn is the first social network that is built around people getting together face-to-face.
Dear Potential Backers,
Thank you for taking the time to consider being part of the Popcorn movement! Have you ever found yourself sitting at home mindlessly scrolling through your social network feeds for hours instead of actually hanging out with your friends? You're not alone. Studies show that in the dawn of the 21st century young people are staying at home to socialize remotely rather than going out and interacting with their friends - thereby missing out on real life experiences.
The idea for Popcorn was inspired after the 17-year-old founders read a startling statistic about the rise of depression in teens: diagnoses of major depression in 18-35-year-olds have risen by 47% since 2013, and a staggering 63% in 12-17-year-olds. Why is this? Experts believe excessive smartphone use coupled with less face-to-face interaction are largely to blame. Here at Popcorn, we believe in re-establishing genuine connections between friends.
We are on the cusp of the next generation of social interaction. Both of us are in our last year of high school and we are seriously concerned that social media has become a widespread enabler of inactivity among youth. We want to get our generation truly reconnected with each other and Popcorn is the bridge between social media and real life interaction.
We want to reimagine social networking so that Popcorn becomes a hub for both online and face-to-face interaction. Existing social networks thrive in an environment of remote social activity.
Popcorn facilitates real social interactions - the healthy kind.
Popcorn brings people together. We are incomparable to any social network in the marketplace. We are the first app that allows users to gain popularity by being social, not because they portray themselves as "perfect" or "rich".
The two of us have been working tirelessly to get this app out. It is our dream.
Current social networks - although providing direct messaging options - do not provide an effective platform for the coordination of social events and word-of-mouth often leads to disorganized events amongst friends.
Whether it's a get-together of five or a party of five hundred, Popcorn is your one-stop-shop for all event curation needs.
The core competency of Popcorn is the “Pop” feature. Think of Popcorn's "Pops" like you would about "Likes." If you have a good time with someone at an event, you Pop them. This means that users have a reason to hang out with their friends and have fun, instead of sitting at home and just liking their pictures. Pops are all about people getting together and actually forging real, human connections. “Pop me” will become everyday vernacular at events after we launch. This idea of incentivizing users to get together and Pop each other is the core of Popcorn.
With your financial backing, we will be able to make a MVP (Minimum Viable Product). We expect to launch in June of 2019. All of your funds will go towards the development of Popcorn.
