The Pear needs to upgrade its facilities by purchasing new lighting & sound equipment and renting extra restrooms for patrons & actors.
The Pear Avenue Theatre, now in its 11th season, is an award-winning, intimate, and absolutely wonderful live theatre tucked into a warehouse in Mountain View, CA. We produce stunning shows and have developed a loyal and devoted following. (The Pear Avenue Theatre is a 501 (c)(3) organization.)
Our honor roll of 70 plays is impressively eclectic, ranging from classics by Shaw, Ibsen, Congreve, and Chekhov (including our latest offering, The Cherry Orchard); timeless modern works by Miller, O'Neill, Williams, and Hansberry; world premieres by Bay Area writers; and edgy plays by stellar contemporary writers like Theresa Rebeck, Anthony Clarvoe, Amy Freed, and Paula Vogel.
Over the years, we've met amazing challenges, reconfiguring our space, even to the point of creating an actual swimming pool for our 2009 production of Metamorphoses. We love our Pear and we love seeing what new heights we can reach.
BUT in order to keep perfecting what we do, we must improve our physical capabilities--and that costs money. We need to upgrade our lighting and sound systems, so that we can get the most out of our intimate space and create more striking effects onstage. And, because our tiny space presently has only a single restroom, we need to increase our restroom facilities, so that our audiences and actors can enjoy their Pear experience as much as possible.
Thanks so much for considering contributing to The Pear!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The Pear is fortunate to benefit from the collaboration of a number of talented and knowledgable people, who have expertise in several fields--artistic, technical, and financial. Our numerous successes over the past ten years make us confident that we will be able to move forward in our goal to and upgrade our facilities and so "perfect the Pear." In particular, we have already been advised about the specific items of lighting and sound equipment that will best meet our needs as well as suit our budget. And so, once we have raised our funds for this project, we will purchase the lights and controller that we have selected, as well as new speakers and laptop needed for controlling sound cues. We will install these technical upgrades in time for our January production, Intimate Apparel, a show that requires a number of settings and so can especially benefit from an expanded lighting plot and more nuanced sound system. In addition, if our Kickstarter campaign is successful, we will be able to arrange for the additional restroom facilities in time for our November production, The Real Thing.
