About this project
Mana War is an original card game created with the spirit of simplicity, inclusion, and creativity in mind. There are 50 cards in the game (5 suits: Sun, Water, Fire, Rock, and Leaf; 10 of each). There are no numbers or values to the cards, no text to read or instructions to follow on the cards themselves. In fact, the games are so simple, the rules for the 4 included games each fit on a single card.
Many table-top games are simply just not accessible to most people, be it because they don't see an interest in learning complex rules and secret strategies, or they don't want to spend tons of money. Mana War aims to address this by being quite possibly the most simple and affordable game involving "mana" that there ever was! If you can play UNO, or Go Fish, you will have no problems playing any one of the Mana War games.
Hey, I like complexity in my games!
Me too! The complexity in Mana War comes in the way of developing strategy based on what other players are doing. Where many games require players to play an entire game without any concept of strategy until the conclusion of the game, playtesting Mana War has proven that players are able to adapt their own strategies just 5 minutes into playing the game.
I also intend for players to find their own unique uses for Mana War! Make up your own game and send it to me, I might add it to the website. Or use the Mana War cards as a supplement to another game you play. Mana War is just as much a gaming tool as it is a game itself!
All game recipients
Get a Dragon Fodder Games sticker with your copy/copies of the game as a thank you for supporting production!
Add $5 to your pledge
For every $5 that backers add on top of their pledge, an additional copy of the game will be donated on your behalf to Cowabunga Recess. Cowabunga Recess is an organization dedicated to childhood growth through play. Located in downtown Baltimore, MD, they provide recess programs to inner city schools as well as community functions and even teambuilding events for corporate environments. Unfortunately, not every day is a beautiful, sunny day to go play 4-square or kickball outside, and some days recess has to be held indoors. All copies of Mana War donated to Cowabunga Recess in this way will go to the schools and programs which provide these activites to the children. Check their Facebook page for more info!
The $5 add-on pledge does not add any shipping costs, and you can add $5 as many times as you want. For example, if you pledge at the $10 level and would like to donate, the pledge page will have you select your shipping ($4 in the US) for your copy of the game, and then you can increase that number from $14 to $19 and I'll take care of the rest!
Add $35 to your pledge

Risks and challenges
Mana War intends to be the first in a series of games I'd like to produce. The reason I chose to make Mana War first, is because it was a game I could vet and design all on my own. This helps me to understand all of the factors going into creating a good, fun game -- as well as mitigates the potential for more people to cause delays in production. I have already reviewed 4 rounds of prototypes myself, and I am confident that the product is ready to go to manufacturing once funded! I am in talks with a few manufacturers depending on the level of interest and have quotes ready to be signed off on, so I'm confident I'll be able to print and fulfill 100 copies or 100,000 copies.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
