Thanks for checking us out! We're two scientists that love laughing but keeping things accurate and factual AF. WERK is Theory Gang's debut game (hopefully of many), so we love getting feedback from experienced designers and Kickstarters!
We've already playtested and prototyped the game and we're looking for feedback before we move into mass production. We also want to hear what scientific and academic concepts YOU want to talk about. See Creator Game Strong to submit your research or illustrations to the game! We'll work with you to incorporate your ideas into our platform.
WERK components include:
100 WERK cards (50 data + 50 art)
250 BRAIN cards (5 phrase options each)
6 Premium dry erase markers + erasers
6 Dry erase boards
6 Voting Cards
1 2-minute timer
1 Instuction/Reference booklet
1 GET CREATIVE reference card
*art work and design not final
You'll peep 100 WERK Cards representing scientific and academic concepts including 50 Illustrations + 50 pieces of Data that relate to 1 of 16 delicious flavors.
It's abstract. Can you imagine it? Can you illustrate your point? Gental warts + Climate change WERKS, too... if you've got the imagination!
Everyone except the DickTater throws a card out (face down).
Choose from 250 BRAIN cards with 5 simple phrases.
Use your dry erase boards to come up with something interesting, ridiculous, funny, accurateAF... whatever. Just put something down!
Write some schtuff.
Timeline that mother out.
Not good at drawing? Great! Draw anyway!
VOTE! Fill in the stars on the voting card.
You get 3 votes. If it's your turn, you get 6!
Reveal your ballots at the same time.
Count up the stars to see who won.
Whoever gets the most stars, wins the round and holds that WERK Card.
Re-distribute the USED BRAIN cards. Player 1 gets an extra BRAIN card for being the Dicktater's choice. Cross off the phrases used with your dry-erase marker. You can't reuse them in the same game. Once TWO phrases have been used on a card, you may trade it in for a fresh brain card.
Repeat 1-6 until somebody holds 3 WERK cards.
Need a quick fix? WERK is easier and faster if you're in:
Have fun with it.
See the expanded instructions for more ways to play!
All sources and references will be listed in the instruction booklet and on https://theorygang.io
With your help, we will be able to continue sleuth educating and inoculating unsuspecting folks! Your contribution will go towards bringing Scientific AF events and products to the public and will support incredible illustrators with a real talent for conveying complex ideas into elegant, funny images.

Risks and challenges
Listen, Denesa and Natasha have both faced the Demonic Depths of Dissertation Defense. If you don't know about that, just know it's a bitch. You stand in front of a verbal firing squad and have people tear apart the 232 page document you spent 6 years and countless hours creating.
They know how to take feedback, work like a dog and get paid little.
They also have children. So, they know how to boss up and get shit done.
Natasha's 6 year old is learning Mandarin to negotiate trade deals and Denesa's oldest is researching social media to keep these old ladies relevant. They got this.
Honestly, the biggest hurdle is requesting feedback and making sure the game is fun AND accurate. As scientists, reaching out isn't always easy, but both Natasha and Denesa have a ton of experience in Outreach. PLUS, they've already gotten input from some of the Big Names in Academics.
