Changing Our Strategy
To Our Kickstarter Backers,
We are sending this message to you to announce that we will be shutting our Kickstarter down today and we want to explain why. Before we do that, however, we first want to say how grateful we are for all of the support that has come to us from family, friends, and from both fans of the All Ports Open Network and Tékumel. Because of your support we feel confident that we could bring our campaign through successfully and reach our goal.
However, the financial goal of our Kickstarter was not the main reason for this campaign. Indeed, we have known from the beginning that we could have done the first season of Tales & Tomes without any funding. The funding we have been asking for was intended to allow us to do this documentary without an increased financial burden on us, and to provide for higher quality audio-recording equipment.
Instead, our main goal was to raise awareness about the documentary and hopefully gather the support of the Tékumel community. In these two areas, we don’t believe that we have been successful. And, without the support of the Tékumel community, we do not want to simply raise the $4000 that we are asking for and go on our merry way to make the documentaries.
So, we are shifting our approach. The Kickstarter will end today, and Tales & Tomes Season 1: Tékumel will still happen. But, instead of relying on Kickstarter for funding, we are moving to a Patreon system. If you backed us because you love APON’s podcasts, or because you are a fan of other things we do, then please head on over to our Patreon and support us there. We have some really cool stuff that we are planning that you will recognize from the Kickstarter campaign.
If, on the other hand, you’re a Tékumel fan and want to enjoy our upcoming documentary about Tékumel, we invite you to join us at AllPortsOpen.com and get to know us before contributing. Our hope is to serve the Tékumel community by telling the story of M.A.R. Barker’s creation, and we don’t want to do that without greater support from that community.
So, long story short: Tales & Tomes Season 1: Tékumel is still going forward. The Tome magazine is still going forward. But we are changing our funding model to Patreon. If you backed this campaign, we ask you to consider supporting our ongoing efforts to make Tales & Tomes and all of our other projects a continuing reality. If you got in for the documentary only, then, come check us out and see if you are into what we do.
As has always been the plan, Tales & Tomes will be completely free.
We are looking forward to making it a reality with your help, either as just part of our community, or as a patreon supporter.
With Deep Gratitude,
Fr. Benjamin Gildas, AF
