Olivia's Cove

Posted by The Oliver Twins (Creator)

Hi everyone,

As we mentioned last week, we're using the time remaining in the campaign to share with you some more of the Dizzy Returns concept work.

Today's design focused video update, filmed mid-last week, gives an insight into a level that was to appear midway through the game, under the working title of Olivia's Cove. The level also introduces a puzzle mechanic brand new to the Dizzy games - the ability to turn day into night!

We'll be back on Wednesday with our last post containing concept work. Until then!

I see based on the more recent update that the level thing looked like how they were going, and I also dislike that idea. its a shame we only get to have this conversation so late in the day.

Perhaps it's because this is an isolated example, but this design approach seems very self-contained - almost like Zack & Wiki on the Wii. Are all the puzzle elements contained within the one area? I hope not because that would be very much contrary to the sense of exploration of a world that I loved so much in the original games. Instead that would seem like a series of 'levels', much like my least-favourite Dizzy game Crystal Kingdom.

How do other people feel? Am I the only one to interpret that style of design from the video, or did others get that impression too? Do other people like that idea?

The art direction is incredibly beautiful and vivid, great job! If you ever intend on relaunching the kickstarter down the line, I'd definitely recommend showing more of this, and even some rough gameplay. It's a shame that you guys didn't get the funding you needed, but if you ever give it another go, I'll definitely back again!(And Andrey's comment down below made me lol! haha)

OLIVERS - WHY U NO POST THIS AT START OF CAMPAIGN?!

      I think this kick-starter was more of a jumped-starter :)
Please do more work on this and re-launch later alongside a better PR campaign. The world would be better with tis game in it.

You all really look like Dizzy.
