Thanks for supporting The NIGHTINGALE and Thanks for supporting Chicago Cinema!
WE ARE FUNDED! With almost two weeks left! Thanks so much to all of our donors and to everyone who helped spread the word! Thanks to you, we will be able to make this essential upgrade to keep the movies looking and sounding their best.
So if we keep rolling, we can us the extra money to make the space more comfortable for patrons. Here is a list of improvements we could make if we raised more funds.
1. Curtains for the kitchen/skylight to make the cinema even darker. ($500)
2. Seat cushions for the folding chairs. Imagine how cozy for your bum. ($250)
3. A wall mounted coat rack for hanging your winter things up. "Where did my scarf go?" says no one ever again. ($300)
4. A low bench near the front for late-comers. Finally, an end to the embarrassing search for an empty chair in the dark. ($350)
5. A custom made stand for our 16mm projector allowing us to fit more seats in the back rows. ($300)
6. A ramp for the front door to make us more accessible to patrons with wheel chairs. ($700)
7. A dedicated mac mini with a preview monitor- so you never have to see the desktop flash up on screen again ($1100)
So if you wanted to donate but haven't yet, please feel free. We will put your dollars to good use, we promise.
ALSO, be sure to see our new reward: Animation artwork from Jodie Mack's new epic motion picture DUSTY STACKS OF MOM. (Thanks Jodie! <3)
Chicago's dear darling microcinema, The NIGHTINGALE, is about to embark on its fifth year in operation. And boy, is our projector tired. In addition, over the last five years, amateur moving image work has shifted significantly toward HD formats. We need to upgrade our current SD projector and accompanying equipment so we can continue providing the best presentation possible for experimental, emerging, and independent cinema.
The NIGHTINGALE is a highly collaborative space. We operate on a gift economy and volunteer labor. We host over 50 screenings annually, partner with numerous local organizations, and over the years we have provided presentation opportunities to hundreds of artists and thousands of patrons.
With the money we raise we are going to purchase the following equipment:
+++ a new HD projector
+++ a set of extra speakers
+++ a mixing board and sound receiver
+++ a PS3 to play blue ray and data files
+++ a PA system for expanded cinema events
+++ service to our trusty 16mm projectors
Now is a great time to invest in The NIGHTINGALE Upgrade. Our director, Christy LeMaster has just enlisted five more programmers to join the staff. We are expanding to accommodate even more programming. Help us welcome Patrick Friel, Emily Kuehn, Jesse Malmed, Chloe McLaren and Doug McLaren!
We really need your help. The NIGHTINGALE is run by working artists and teachers, and we pay most of our door proceeds back to exhibiting artists. We can't afford the upgrade alone. Please help us continue to present important experimental and independent movies. We can't wait to see all the amazing work the next five years has to offer.
THANKS FOR SUPPORTING CHICAGO CINEMA.

As we all know, buying new equipment can be tricky so, to ensure your money is spent wisely and lastingly, we've enlisted the help of top notch professionals like Doug McLaren, Nightingale Programmer and Projection Manager at The Music Box. He has been doing this sort of thing for years and will help us get it right.
