Journey back to Neverland, but see it for the first time through the eyes of exciting new characters, and all of the returning greats from J.M. Barrie's classic story.
THE KING OF NEVERLAND is a young adult novel written by me, Siike Donnelly, with art by Ashley Lanni, which brings Wendy and her brothers back to Neverland. Joined by new character, Sun, along with Tiger Lily and the Lost Children, they must join forces to battle an evil King in a last ditch attempt to soften his heart and turn him back into the boy everyone once loved; Peter Pan!
THE KING OF NEVERLAND is a non-stop adventure that will capture your heart and imagination all over again, delivering a Peter Pan epic unlike any other.
"It's Hook, American McGee's Alice, and Final Fantasy all rolled into one amazing story! I just had to be involved!" -editor Maddison Nielsen
The format of the book will be 5.25 x 8 paperback! Both covers will be in this format.
Peter Pan is one of my favorite heroes of all time. But what would make him a great villain, and why? What happens when our heroes live long enough to become the villains? How do the people who love and were influenced by their heroes handle their destruction? Since I see this happen a lot in the world today, I wanted to explore this heartbreak in a fantasy setting.
This isn't just a "darker, grittier" version of the story we already know--it's a logical continuation of that story where everyone evolves--just not in the way you expected. But since the world of Neverland has become darker, I made sure my heroes were even brighter.
Tiger Lily, Sun, Wendy, Tinker Bell, Foxtrot, and more, risk everything in the fight against King Peter Pan! And like all great heroes, the Lost Children don't want to kill their enemy--they're on a mission to save Peter Pan's soul, and the very soul of Neverland!

WE HIT THE $1500 STRETCH GOAL!! Ashley can finish this wrap-a-round cover in watercolor and every backer from $30 and up will get to choose which of the two covers they want on their book.
We hit the $2500 Stretch Goal!! Nowwe will add a 24-30 page book called THE KING OF NEVERLAND COMPANION. It will feature an 8-page black & white comic, drawn by Ashley, telling more of Sun's origin and early days in Neverland, fighting alongside Peter Pan.
It will also feature a short story called THE QUEENS OF NEVERLAND about Tiger Lily and Foxtrot, and their early days training together and becoming best friends.
For every $250 we go over $2500, we will expand the Companion with more short stories.
- A story about Tinker Bell and Peter Pan's Shadow.
- A flashback story starring Captain Hook and Smee.
- A Wendy short, and a story about Blackbeard.
- And lastly, a story that takes place AFTER the conclusion of The King of Neverland.
The higher we go, the more our universe grows!
The added bonuses for hitting our current number of Stretch Goals are as followed...
- Backers at $5 and up get the Tic-Toc Ringtone
- Backers at $20 and up get two additional paper masks to print out.
- Backers at $30 and up get a FREE 4x6 mini print of Ashley's art.
- Backers from $10-$42 tier get a digital copy of the Companion Book.
- Backers at $50 and up get a signed, print copy of the Companion Book.
My goal is to finish writing this book by May 1st, 2016 and email backers the fully edited PDF that day. But, I know some of you would like a signed, printed copy, so there are some limited tiers for that. If there's a crazy demand for printed copies of this book, I will make new tiers to accomodate the best I can. :)
As for what I need $750 for...
- $300 - to my artist for the cover and the chapter break pages
- $250 - to print the limited copies of the books
- $100 - to my editors ($50 each)
- $50 - to ship those books to me to sign and sketch in
- $50 - towards Kickstarter fees
Print distribution for THE KING OF NEVERLAND will be handled by CreateSpace.com. I highly recommend them for other self-publishers out there.

I believe that Kickstarter Guidelines prevent us from giving to any charities, but we can't talk about Peter Pan withouth mentioning the Great Ormond Street Hospital, who J.M. Barrie gave the rights of his classic story to. I encourage you to go to gosh.org and make a donation yourself, even if only a few dollars, as it's a wonderful and beautiful cause.
But I will say if I'm able to sell this book to a publishing company down the line, or make a series out of it, or reach any kind of major success, I will take a portion of whatever money I make from that deal (should it ever happen) and make a personal donation myself.
I'm a brain aneurysm survivor and have tried to raise money through previous work to give to bafound.org. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be, so keep your fingers crossed that we can do some good down the line with this book.
Here are some other great projects and people in need if you have more giving to give. :)
Risks and challenges
Maybe the biggest challenge will be following in some VERY big footsteps. I mean, it's Peter friggin' Pan! A classic, told, retold and brilliantly reimagined in multiple media. How do you compete?
After 10 years of writing professionally--including my prose novel, RHINO (available as a reward to the right), I feel I'm ready for the challenge.
The story is already outlined in detail, and I'm confident I can complete the novelization in six months, having it to backers by May 2016. Plus, my two brilliant editors from ELAN VITAL (also available as a reward) will be on board to check my work and keep me on schedule.
THE KING OF NEVERLAND began as a comic book script. But art costs money, and the financial realities of comic book production have put that dream out of reach... for now!
If this project performs well, my next Kickstarter may be the graphic novel adaptation of this book. Or... if this Kickstarter performs REALLY well, maybe we can make that version a stretch goal. Keep your fingers crossed. Or better than that: recruit!
SPREAD THE WORD:
The biggest challenge for a Kickstarter campaign is always getting the word out there. It's easy to be drowned out on social media, so, please spread the word. Tell your friends. Share the link.
