After two years and three homemade EPs, the raddest street folk band in Seattle are ready to make a professional record. You can help!
After more than two years of gracing the street corners and cabarets of Seattle, and with three homemade EPs under their proverbial belts, celebrated street folk trio The Mongrel Jews are ready to record a real, professional ALBUM. With tracks!
However, like the hobos of yore they strive to emulate in style and song, The Mongrel Jews have but little money to spend on such grandiose schemes. THIS, my friend, is where you come in. Our crack team of elite mathematicians have calculated that we could craft a modest five song album of astounding clarity for a mere $3,333.33
Of course, more money would mean more awesome. We would not decline a surplus! Be assured, any extra funds would be channeled directly into increasing the general wonderfulness of said album.
What will happen if we get some extra funds? Well, let us tell you!
1. More time to record in a classier studio!
2. More cool musicians to accompany our tunes!
3. Purchasing resources we would need for a tour! (hint hint, out of state fans)
4. An awe-inspiring CD release concert best described as a one-of-a-kind, immersive, theatrical concert experience. You all really do want this to happen. Trust us. It's gonna be amazing. But it's only gonna happen if we create a solid record first. It'll take near $5,000 before we can consider this super concert, and will also depend on how well the rest of the recording process goes.
THE BUDGET BREAKDOWN~$1,100-1,500 recording & mixing (approximately two full days in the studio)
$175 mastering with Myles Boisen (Tom Waits, Corpus Callosum, Zoe Boekbinder)
$100-200 accompanying musicians
~$1000 album assembly materials (500 count)
~$500 album artwork
SPECIAL NOTE: The band would like to thank Cafe Mox at Card Kingdom for graciously allowing us to use their swanky and exceedingly comfortable private room for part of our shoot. No, that is not the meeting room at the Secret Mongrel Jews Compound. Visit Cafe Mox in Ballard for all your drinking-beer-while-gaming needs!
EXTRA SPECIAL NOTE: Thanks to Jarod of www.alienbobz.com for shooting the video!
We get this question quite a lot. YES! We were all raised Jewish. We're not anti-semites. Don't worry about it.
At one of our early performances among friends, we were discussing our respective ethnic lineages, being scattered about the European continent. At one point, one of us summed it up as "your basic Jew mongrel." Having said that, the poet Morris Stegosaurus suggested that The Mongrel Jews would be a great band name. And that is, as they say, that.
