A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

It's not easy to find the perfect pocket tool with a side clip, folding blade, and a bottle opener. Around 18 months ago we challenged ourselves to create a tool that would be light, practical and affordable.
The Wootz EDC is the ideal tool for any adventure where weight and space are a consideration. Its versatility makes it a must-have companion for every adventurer, or eighter you’re just grilling in the backyard with a cold one.
It's manufactured from the highest-carbon stainless steel and weighs just 1.9 ounces or 55 grams. The Wootz EDC handles common BBQ functions in a pleasing, easy to handle shape.
THE WOOTZ EDC IDEA
Wootz EDC (Every Day Carry) founders wished to reduce the amount of gear you would need when heading into the wild, knowing that every ounce on your back becomes a kilogram when carried over the distance. We began with a simple keychain as a jumping-off point but also wanted to design a tool that would handle every step when preparing a meal around the campfire.
Every function of the Wootz EDC had to work great in its own right. For durability, stainless steel 440C was a perfect choice.
After 18 months of design work and hundreds of different prototypes, the Wootz EDC was born. Wootz EDC makes a unique gear, based on our love for barbeque and beer.
Whether you are backpacking around the world or spending a day in the woods, we want to be with you.
Our team consists of curios-minded mavericks, creating unique products that are practical, functional and aesthetically pleasing in the real world.

Some of our valued early members have suggested a Tanto blade option for their Wootz EDC. We loved this idea so much we went back to the drawing board and designed, sketched and modelled a Tanto version as seen above. Due to the production schedule, we have decided to introduce the Tanto design as a stretch goal for our campaign.

This campaign is promoted by Backercamp. Since 2012, Backercamp has helped over 5,000 creators make their projects a reality.
Wootz Design started off as a hobby when two like-minded and artistic friends started to make various projects together. Our goal is to produce enough Wootz EDC pocket tools to move up to a better CNC machine so we can make them out of other exotic metals and hopefully produce them at a cheaper price than possible now. We also have other prototype pocket tools made of aluminum that need to be made out of Titanium due to the work they perform. So hopefully this project is a success and you all can see what else we have dreamed up.
We promise you will love it. :)
