Listening to your music on your iPod is great, but for discerning music fans, the connection just seems so much more visceral when you slide a record out of its sleeve, gently lay it down on the turntable and drop the needle for the first time.
As the music industry changes, a lot collectors are looking to the familiarity of vinyl to bolster their music libraries.
Serious audiophiles know that the sound on vinyl — especially on the low end which is often compressed — is far superior to digital formats. Besides, nobody has ever lost their record collection when their hard drive crashed.
At Whoa! Records, we're committed to putting out great music. We hope to press a run of 500 10" records — 100 on limited edition green vinyl and 400 on traditional black — for Chicago-based punk rockers About the Mess' debut EP Anthem of Imperfection.
The EP is already available digitally, but there's so much more to the music that we believe true music fans will get out of hearing it as the band intended, with all the intricacies coming through.
About the Mess is also recording a brand new record at the end of January, a split 7” that will be released on Whoa! Records with Seized Up from Detroit. For that record, the band will be recording a music video, and by donating $40 (and some higher levels) YOU can be in the music video!
Although the sound from vinyl is great, it's not always practical — unless you're driving around in John Lennon's Rolls Royce, which had a record player in the back seat. So to make sure About the Mess fans are getting the right combination of great sound and practicality, each record will include a coded card that allows the purchaser to download the EP digitally from Bandcamp, where tracks are available in lossless format.
Vinyl has become a much bigger part of the music market over the past several years. Because we are still a very small label (but growing!) with limited resources, we would like to fund the vinyl version of this record with your help.
Thanks to United Recording Pressing, we are able to offer a limited number of test pressings for serious collectors who are able to donate $50 or more. By helping us fund our vinyl releases, you will help us be on a more solid financial footing, allowing us to dedicate more resources to promoting our current releases and recording more high-quality music in the future.
We also have another Kickstarter running for Whoa! Records label mates P.T.'s Revenge that you can find here:
