Hi! We're The Mix.
We're putting on Shakespeare's As You Like It this May.
The truth is, we would do it for free if we could. But, we can't.
Before we cut to the chase, we'd like to make a quick announcement:
Now that that's out of the way, here's a little about our show:
What can be said about As You Like It that hasn't been said a thousand times over by thousands of people more eloquent than us? Not much. But, there are countless thousands of new things that can be done with the show. Keeping that in mind, we'll spare you the synopsis and get straight to the important part: why our production is worth your money.
Why Our Production Is Worth Your Money:
- Our take on this play is entirely original. As far as we can tell, there has never been a production quite like ours will be. More on that in the FAQ.
- This play is filled with wonderful lyrics and we have written a full score of original music for each song.
- We have a vibrant young cast of talented and dedicated actors from across the globe.
- Our actors are university and conservatory trained, and bring a huge variety of skills and talents to the show.
- We have a story to tell.
So, what do we intend to do with the money? Well we'll tell you.
What We Intend To Do With The Money
- Rent a theatre.
- Rent rehearsal space when needed.
- Buy costumes.
- Buy props.
- Buy set pieces.
- Pay the musicians.
- Pay the actors.
- Pay the director.
- Did we mention Advertise?
As you can see, something like this isn't a simple financial undertaking. We've run the numbers, and the goal we've set is the exact amount we'll need to produce this play in a respectable way we can be proud of. Of course, if more is donated than asked, we will use it all to further the interests of the play. Despite the payment of cast and crew, many of us are taking part in this production at great personal loss purely for the sake of the art. You can't buy good art, but you can certainly help it happen by donating.
Still not enough?
Now you can check out our new series, Why We Like It, wherein members of our cast tell you in person why we do what we do and why this project is so very special to us. We'll post the episodes in updates, but collect them here for easy access.

Risks and challenges
There is no shortage of risk when putting on a play. An almost comical number of things have to occur in order for the curtain even to go up. We are a company full of people trained to avert those risks and make sure that this production takes place. Each one of us has a deep personal and creative interest in the success of this play. If challenges should arise, this company can meet and overcome them, and if we personally can't, we know people who can. We have worked hard to get where we are and it is that drive that will move this play forward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We've written a full score of original music to set Shakespeare's lyrics to. We also have three (technically four) shows for you. Here's what that means:
At the beginning of each show, we will poll the audience on what style of play they'd like to see from a predetermined selection of three options (and a secret fourth one.) Once decided, the actors will quickly get into the appropriate costumes and put on that variation of the show. The text will not change, but we guarantee the shows will be so wildly and entertainingly different you will come back time and again just to see each new show performed!
