Mental Health is an issue near and dear to my heart since it's something I've struggled with my whole life, but especially in the last three years (since having kids.) I hope we can get all five pins made this year to help everyone kick off 2019 positively, with friendly little reminders they can wear on their coats, hats, lapels, etc that they're not in this alone.
Here's the story and the reason behind each pin.
First up we've got "My cat/dog gets me."
If you're dealing with any sort of mental illness, it can be so isolating at times, and when you feel like you've got no one and no one understands you, here comes your furry companion to snuggle up and lean-in to let you know you're not alone. I never thought I was much of a cat person until we adopted our cat Penny and she has become the therapy cat I never knew I needed, and sometimes the only person who can stand me when I'm having a bad day. These hard enamel pins (cat will have glitter!) will be 1.25 inches with two backing posts with rubber clutches.
Up next is "My anxiety is a bitch, but I am not."
This one is important because so often when we are in the midst of an anxiety attack, a depressive slump, etc., we can come off as cold or unfriendly, but that's just our anxiety taking over. And this is a reminder to you, and those around you, that it's the anxiety talking, not you, and you CAN overcome this. You are not your anxiety. This hard enamel pin will be 1.25 inches with two backing posts and rubber clutches.
"Less than Crazy."
This one is inspired by the book titled "Less than Crazy" where the author discusses her diagnosis of Bipolar II - a diagnosis that took years to get. I think this pin is important because it illustrates how mental health IS a spectrum and it takes a while, and a lot of trial and error to get to a diagnosis so we can start to heal. To me this pin says, "yeah, I'm dealing with some stuff, but I'm not crazy." I will wear it proudly. This hard enamel pin (with glitter!) will be 1.5 inches with two backing posts and rubber clutches.
And finally, "Let Them GO!"
We all need to do more of this in 2019. Letting go of toxic people, toxic relationships, activities you do out of obligation that bring you no comfort or joy, etc. We stress ourselves out so much just trying to be there for other people and do things for others, and it's important to remember that if these people you're going above and beyond for can't bother to check-in when you're having a rough week, month, year, then you've got to just let them go. Stop hanging on to shit just to hang on. It's OK to let it go and put yourself first! This hard enamel pin (with glitter!) will be 1.5 inches with two backing posts and rubber clutches.
Here's the cost breakdown for 50 pins of each design.
Our main goal is the "My cat/dog gets me" design - total cost will be $314
The next design "my anxiety is a bitch but I am not" gets produced once we raise $471
"Less than Crazy" gets produced once we hit $628
And "Let Them Go" gets produced once we hit $785.
Risks and challenges
If we don't raise $785 we won't get all five pins made, which will be a major bummer. But other than that, because I already have a manufacturer I like and trust in place, I don't anticipate any major hurdles in the production process of these pins!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
