NEW PHONE, WHO DIS?
We're Matt Hart and Aubrey Zoli, and our band is called The Local Strangers. We've been making music together in Seattle since we met in 2010 -- starting as a mild-mannered folk duo and eventually fronting a raucous full band. We've toured the country, put out two full length albums, plus a few EPs and singles (all of which you can download for free HERE during our Kickstarter) and we're currently wrapping up our latest album, called When We Were Honest.
We've made it this far on our own making the new record but we need a little help to get us the rest of the way there. That is where you come in!
For any newcomers, here's our vibe:
Kickstarter is a great way to simply preorder an album, but we're offering so much more than that! Check out all the rewards for donating that we are offering over on the right -- they are mostly self explanatory, but here are some prototypes to give you a visual:
The T-Shirts will be a brand new design (not our logo like the Totes and Tumbler) and we haven't quite decided on the album art yet. But those tidbits will be coming in backers-only updates as the campaign progresses!
By the way, INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING IS FREE thanks to an extremely generous, cosmopolitan patron of the arts.
UH, WHERE'S THIS CASH GOING?
Wow making an album is expensive... We've been recording for much of the summer and our coffers are nearly dry, so these funds will help us:
- Compensate the amazing Martin Feveyear (Brandi Carlile, Walking Papers, Shelby Earl, and our last album) for his work producing, engineering, mixing, and mastering the album.
- Compensate our tireless band members Mike, Ted, and Luke -- plus some additional musicians -- for their talent in the studio.
- Launch a formal PR campaign to get these tunes in as many earholes as possible.
- Create a music video for the album's first single.
- Photography and art design for the album art.
- Order all the CDs, vinyl records, and other merchandise for rewards and the merch table.
- Shipping, Kickstarter Fees, Taxes, and all that boring small business stuff.
This amount of money feels enormous to us, but we've done the math and this is what it's going to take to get the job done (without going deeply into debt of course)!
STRETCHIEST OF STRETCH GOALS
Additionally, there are some things we really want to do but don't feel feasible within our initial budget. If we can raise more than our goal, however, we can make these things a reality!
$15,000 -- An acoustic duo recording of all these songs, similar to the 2nd disc of Take What You Can Carry. These songs all have such a different flavor when it's just Matt and Aubrey and we loved being able to showcase that in the last album. This time we would offer that as a free download to all our backers, and sell it as a standalone release.
$17,000 -- We can do another music video, in addition to the one we have planned. Aubrey is always coming up with music video ideas (the scale of which Matt has to constantly deflate) and we would love to Beyoncé all over this thing.
$20,000 -- We will have no debt and WHO KNOWS!? European tour? TLS ice sculptures? Gold plated statuettes? We'll find good use for the funds, we promise.

Risks and challenges
We're still wrapping up the recording process and there's a ton of work to do once that's complete. But this isn't our first rodeo, and we're ready to step up and address any issues that come up with transparency and integrity. Let's do this!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
