In 2015, the Loading Dock opened in Littleton, NH as a venue for live performances as well as a community art space. The musical performances that have come to The Loading Dock have been varied and unique, unlike anything else you will find in northern NH. We've had bands from all over the east coast, (even Florida!) and a ton of local musicians of all ages perform at our space. We offer something unique to the local community. If you have been to a show at The Loading Dock before, you know that the space has incredible acoustics and is the perfect intimate space to experience performances and events.
But here's the dilemma... to keep The Loading Dock open to the public we need to put in two exit doors and upgrade our fire detection system. When we do, we will be a Place of Assembly and able to accommodate up to 75 people for events and performances.
We have plans and hired a contractor to work on the project. He is willing to donate his labor and expertise to the Loading Dock, we need to purchase the materials for the project. The estimate is that we can complete this project for $6,000. Also included in this estimate is the alarm system upgrade and electrical work and hard wired wifi connection so that we can broadcast live events on local tv and radio and online.
As soon as the second exit door is complete, we have local and touring bands and musicians who want to play at The Loading Dock. Our rural New Hampshire community will benefit from having a space that can be flexible in presenting a wide range of gatherings, events and performances.
Please consider contributing what you can to this project. Places like The Loading Dock don't come around often. It truly is a special place that is needed in this area. Music and the arts are vital to a happy and healthy rural community.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge will be scheduling construction and the alarm company so that we can be up and running by 3/9 which is our first booked show with our new exit. Our timing is tight so we are going to condense the duration of the Kickstarter campaign to 20 days. As a small DIY Artspace in rural northern NH our biggest challenge is finding and reaching an audience to participate in our events. Our area does not have a college or university nearby so our audience, by necessity, is a mix of young and old. Putting in this exit will give us status of a Place of Assembly which will also allow us to advertise in print, radio and on the web instead of just word of mouth.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
