Both phones stopped working.. Not only was this delayed with horrible battery life, they now ring once and stop, show a timer but never ringing another device. This is really annoying and useless...
We are looking into ways to make the software more efficient with the hopes of extending the battery life.
Our current battery capacity is 370 mAh and the lab in Foxconn’s factory shows an average 3 days stand by (in a perfect environment with proper temperature, reception, etc). We have seen in actual use the battery last from 1 day to 4 days standby. There may be other options for helping extend the battery significantly, for use cases that require such an extended battery, with accessories that we would also like to explore. Thank you for the feedback, it’s important for us to learn from this and prioritize a longer battery life in the future, both with software updates and potential future products.
@vivek, that seems abnormal and we will to reach out to learn more.
@Light can you please prioritise a firmware update to try improve battery life? At present I can't even rely on taking the Light Phone away for two days camping because the battery drains after just 1 day! I can switch device off but what's the point in that as voicemails divert back to original phone. Yes I'm an international backer without access to any of the supposed 'light' features. I can see myself taking this phone when I'm out jogging but not for purpose it was designed.
Ok. I've been using the phone for a week now and can safely say that this has the worst battery life I've had on a phone. Let's just say that this phone is even worse that an old iPhone in terms of battery life. My charge on the phone did not even last half a day. And the funny part is that it wasn't even used to make calls. The. Artery just kept draining out. Pathetic!!!
I see, Jonny, I did not realize you were international when I mentioned the bit about outgoing call masking as that aspect unfortunately is not available internationally. As it stands there are a lot of regional-specific pieces that would be required in each country for us to onboard users to a similar experience with a SIM and the cloud platform. Currently our software team is all the way focused on working through any bugs in making sure everyone is on-boarded correctly (like the speed dial bug that you mention - we are currently working on that but not comfortable enough to give an accurate ETA yet).
Some other international users have explained that they were able to pick up a duplicate SIM (also sometimes called cloned/twinned SIM) and that is a great way to experience the Light Phone as you don't have to turn ON call forwarding and the Light Phone will automatically keep your phone number without needing our cloud platform. SIM duplicates are not legal/available everywhere, including the U.S.
As for updates, one reason we ended up building the desktop app was we are able to make small improvements to the .apk software and automatically update the Light Phone when it gets plugged into the desktop app. Although unable to call mask outgoing calls without our SIM, there is still a lot we can explore on the Light Phone itself in making it more suitable for our users, and we'd welcome any feedback.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Don't get me wrong it is a lovely phone - sleek and as I've the dark version - the white keys are quite uniquely mesmerising etc.
Ok the desktop (Mac) app is bit buggy but I'm sure you'll fix that soon. Have you an ETA for fixing simple things like programming contacts? I'm having to switch the phone off and on and re-launch the app to see any edits.
As to the cloud features how do you see these working for international backers like me who don't have your SIM? That bit I still don't get. I can only see you stopping the light phone ringing when incoming caller IDs don't match the phone's call list. But I'm not sure how asking for additional cloud features will help unless you are talking about flashing new firmware.
We have to understand that we support an idea, This is what Kickstarter is about. So there is always a risk that not all promises can be fulfilled... And for me, that risk I took. Light Phone is a beautiful product, and yes I also see the flaws: Battery, problems with connection to my Mac... And I hope that with every new update it will get better. But still it looks good and it works. Thanks creators...
We never intended anyone to feel duped ever, sorry if we made you feel that way at all. We totally understand that our battery life estimation was far from the reality of what it is now. We tried to explain the choice we made back in the fall of 2015 to chose form factor (thinness) over battery life. Such estimations on Kickstarter, almost two years before the final product shipped, are not easy without having gone through the process of building it. There was a lot of learnings along the way. In retrospect, we would not have been as overly optimistic with battery life, we truly apologize for that and can understand how that is frustrating as a backer.
When we launched the campaign, we had no promise to solve the outgoing call masking, which is an additional feature that we felt was the most important one that we could offer after talking to users about how they would use the Light Phone and we spent a great deal of our time and energy solving that to make the Light Phone a more seamless extension of the smartphone (albeit not completely seamless as we might hope to get to one day). This outgoing call masking is something we are really proud of.
The desktop app programs the Light Phone's memory, that is correct, but there is the other piece which is our cloud platform which is where the filtering/masking happens (and any other future "light" features will be added). We'd love more feedback as to what features you would like to see, and am sorry that if we have disappointed you with the current experience. To answer your question about how it currently works, a filtered caller would be sent to the same message that a missed call would receive notifying them that you are on your Light Phone and currently unavailable.
Again, we appreciate your support of our project and hope that the Light Phone can still make going light special for you in its current state :)
Thanks but I do feel somewhat duped into saying yes to a piece of kit that doesn't unfortunately do what I thought it claimed to do on the tin! Worse, I had a back and forth 4/5th April with support where I was very clearly trying to understand the call filter process. Without call filtering this is just straightforward call forwarding which is a function of my existing carrier. Now if all your filtering on the light phone does is block an incoming call from ringing the device, what happens to that incoming filtered call (or international filtered call)? I get that the desktop app is to program the light phone's memory functions but it doesn't add any light call features.
I just wish you were more upfront that this is just marketing.
Thanks, Jonny! Glad to hear that you received the phone alright and enjoyed the unboxing :)
Totally understand, and sorry if we have not been more clear about the software/“light features”. Our original plan was to build a smartphone app, and we spent many months working on the app for both Android and iOS, but ultimately realized the smartphone app solution was not able to do what we needed the app to do on a smartphone. There were 2 issues really, 1. that we could not reliably enough wireless update the Light Phone settings from a smartphone app using 2G network (speed dials yes, but firmware no), and 2. iOS restricted us from turning ON/OFF call forwarding within the app which made the app more or less pointless for a large portion of our users. We also had a lot of users not on iOS or Android, in which the smartphone app would not serve. The desktop app and ‘go light contact’ was the best solution we were able to come up with that would address all of our users and overall we’re pretty happy with the experience so far. We have not taken the smartphone app off the table completely, and would explore it again if it makes sense. In general, all of our backers have been giving us great feedback, and patience as we work through bugs/pain points together, thanks all!
As for filtering, this is a feature we actually have inside the phone currently, and have been testing and debugging before sharing more publicly with everyone in our next update. On the user guide (https://www.thelightphone.com/aboutphone) you can see a little bit more about the Light Phone Menu and the filter option. Right now it is just a binary ON/OFF that let’s all calls through (OFF) or filters calls so that just speed dial contact’s calls go through (ON). Once we get through some of the outlier bugs that we’ve experienced with a few users and have everyone comfortably on-boarded, we want to add these preferences into the desktop app as well. Feel free to give the filter setting a try, and we’d love to know your thoughts about what ‘Light features’ we should explore next. The best way to reach us is support@thelightphone.com . Thanks again for the support, Jonny, we hope you’re enjoying the experience of going light.
So the packing is a work of art and the phone is slick design... but what about the cool 'light' features? There I'm a bit flummoxed.
In the original pitch blurb you wrote "It comes... with an app to use with your existing phone"... "with our app you can forward the calls you want to receive from your existing number"
But this is simply not true. ALL calls forward - I've no way to selectively manage the calls that forward to the light phone to "keep distractions at home". The desktop app simply programs the speed dials. There is no iPhone app to allow me to selectively forward certain incoming calls. I could have picked up a $10 basic credit card sized phone, granted without the slick design features , and have the same functionality. What am I missing?
Glad you got it set up and working smoothly! We are still working on finalizing the details of that exactly, but we were imaging monthly billing done through email/web. If you have any feedback on what you think would work best, please do let us know and we will take that into consideration. Hope all is well!
Received my two phones this week and finally got to play this week-end.Although the software user guide took a little while to digest, in the end everything worked PERFECTLY. Great final product and very satisfied. Fair price for extended SIM card usage after 6 months as well! How will subsequent charges for SIM be handled? CIA monthly EFT, annual, monthly?
Today my two Light Phones arrived, I first installed the white, keeping the black shrink wrapped for future use as a present...
It works.
I can call and can receive calls. But there is no info about setitings at all in the app or in the website. I found out by trying how the speed dialing works, but anything else is just guesswork.
e.g. the clock: the time changes. Sometimes it shows the correct time, then it switches 2 hours back...
The 24 hour setting is accessible, but cannot be saved.
And: Ringtone and Vibration can be selected, but not changed ...
So: PLEASE give us a useable manual for the basic functions !!
App is back up and running, we experienced a few hours of an unreachable server very early (our NYC time), sorry for the inconvenience to anyone who might have also experienced this, everything appears to be up and running again. Email support@thelightphone.com if you still need help or have any questions :)
Two Black Light phones received today. Packaging/hardware is above expectations. however, http://lightphoneapp.com/ seems to be down and I've yet to get a 2g sim card.
I received the phone, but the T Mobile 2G coverage is terrible here (Portland suburbs). I wanted to be able to take this phone camping and on vacation, but looking at the coverage map it will be useless. It doesn't work at my house or work or my child's school, nor will it work anywhere close to where I was planning on vacationing this summer.
We just wanted to let you know that all Kickstarter orders with confirmed region, address & color preference have now shipped from our distribution center in Chicago.
An email with a tracking number gets sent out as it becomes available to us. Please check your spam/junk folder or reach out to us if you did not receive your personal tracking information. Please email us at support@thelightphone.com for specific questions, we're happy to help.
For backers who have not answered our survey, we will follow up once again via email. We are not able to ship your light phone to you without it. We understand that this process has taken longer than we expected to fulfill and we appreciate your patience with us as we successfully rolled out thousands of phones to 70 different countries around the world.
Also, we apologize if there was and unexpected international customs fee. We tried our best to make it clear on the Kickstarter campaign page that such custom charges might apply in some regions, and that we could not be responsible for such charges. They are unfortunately out of our control. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Hi fellow international backers, finally my "Light" is on the way to Germany :) Thanks to the team for making it happen!
I was just a little surprised that I had to pay additional fees for customs - I thought it was included. How about the other backers? You also had to pay additional fees?
The same day AGAIN that I write that comment, they ship out a phone to me at 4am. Strange time. Then I come here and I've just figured out that I'm probably getting the phone that Marco Cuevas sent back in.
My hope isn't restored. I'm fully expecting to get a phone that doesn't work. And if I can predict that before it gets here then for sure, if that's the case, then they knew it.
I'll video the unboxing and if I'm wrong, I'll happily hold my hands up.
Got me a while ago. Cool design. I just wish it would work properly. The team has been pretty responsive in trying to help. They even sent me a replacement phone and SIM. The problem is that my light phone doesn't receive the calls through my cell properly. Is can call out though. Anyway, hoping they can help me get things resolved.
Backer #270 for TWO phones in U.S. and STILL NO PHONES! January Update stated they were to ship soon. You owe your backers an HONEST UPDATE N-O-W-! ! ! ! ! !
Everytime I've asked support I get the reply that shipping will start next week. They said that 2 months ago, 6 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago. I'm also beginning to wonder if the phones even exist.
We've been patient for a very long time while this product was in development. It's a bit hard to stomach that we've fallen into the last set of "remaining orders". Can you please provide a more pertinent and detailed update on how many phones are remaining to be sent out?
The backing experience is beginning to resemble that of one being stringed along, which is not a very happy one.
We have just began shipping the final batch of phones this week and all remaining orders will be fulfilled in the next two weeks (depending on how long it takes to arrive from Chicago). I'm sorry that we have fallen behind on this comment section, the best way to reach us is still support@thelightphone.com, so we can give personalized answers and make sure your phone is on it's way to the correct address.
It has been amazing to hear from everyone who has received a Light Phone and is actively using it! Hope you are enjoying a wonderful start to spring :)

Still not got the phone.
The delivery got to the country but it is now lost. Is it just a coincidence that that happen after all the hassle I had to get the phone?
Probably. But I guess I'll have to wait 3 months for it again.
I just want my money back. The moment has passed.

Michael Stur le May 4
Today my two Light Phones arrived, I first installed the white, keeping the black shrink wrapped for future use as a present...

UK based.

Hi received today... also didn't expect to pay additional £32 pounds on postage :-(

Eric Ng le April 30
Do you think you will have any people to trust your " new development on your next project ?????!!!!!!!
Eric Ng le April 30
Where is the phone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gaige me a day please!!!!!!!!!!!
Damian Dugdale le April 30

Damian Dugdale le April 29
This project is a scam. They have 20 phones and they send one out every 4 weeks so there is a new message that they're getting delivered.
I've been lied to so many times now about the delivery coming that I've given up. This is the next Lily.
Gabriel Perea le April 29
There's hope y'all!!! Just receive my black and my white one!!!! San Antonio, TX!!!

Backer #270 for TWO phones in U.S. and STILL NO PHONES! January Update stated they were to ship soon. You owe your backers an HONEST UPDATE N-O-W-! ! ! ! ! !
Fredrik Hegardt le April 21
Everytime I've asked support I get the reply that shipping will start next week. They said that 2 months ago, 6 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago. I'm also beginning to wonder if the phones even exist.
Scott Zematis le April 20
Still waiting here in Chicago... please update.
Anthony Rojas le April 20
Hi Lightphone folks,
We've been patient for a very long time while this product was in development. It's a bit hard to stomach that we've fallen into the last set of "remaining orders". Can you please provide a more pertinent and detailed update on how many phones are remaining to be sent out?
The backing experience is beginning to resemble that of one being stringed along, which is not a very happy one.
Andre Wang le April 20
Me too, no phone yet!!! Waiting forever to receive it! The phone really exists?!?!
Light Créateur le April 17
Hi Kickstarter backers,
We have just began shipping the final batch of phones this week and all remaining orders will be fulfilled in the next two weeks (depending on how long it takes to arrive from Chicago).
