From the outside looking in, James is living the American dream. But behind closed doors, he has no desire to live and contemplates suicide. Desperate to find a way out of darkness, James travels to the Amazon rain forest with one mission: to save his own life. Without knowing any of the dangers that lie ahead, he starts searching for a Shaman who can help. James' road to redemption isn't easy — he faces many obstacles and even a few life-threatening experiences as he learns to acknowledge the space inside himself and understand a larger truth about how we're all connected. After undergoing various forms of treatments from tribal plants and medicines, James is faced with the consequences of his own actions. He undergoes a life changing experience that brings him a deeper understanding and acceptance of himself, and a more profound understanding of the interconnectedness of us all.
THE LAST SHAMAN was made by Raz Degan, but a lot of talented and experienced folks were part of the process. Nadav Schirman and Ariel Wromen are our producers and the film was executive produced by John Battsek, Luca Argentero and Giancarlo Canavesio. Collectively, these folks have been nominated for countless awards and even helped shepherd an Academy Award-winning film.
We're working with Mangusta Productions and Abramorama to distribute the documentary.
Abramorama is a leader in distributing independent films and have been behind some of the most successful documentary films of the past decade, including THE BEATLES: EIGHT DAYS A WEEK and EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP.
Mangusta Productions is a visionary media company that develops, produces and distributes films that challenge the status quo and shape our future. They embrace topics most media makers aren't discussing, including sex, drugs and politics.

- Stay in touch and stay tuned in. If all goes well, we'll be reaching audiences soon and need your help to promote screenings and generate local conversations.
We’ve been working on THE LAST SHAMAN for more than five years. The film is shot, edited and nearly ready to reach audiences. We launching a Kickstarter campaign to generate the final funds we need to distribute the film to theaters and online platforms, like iTunes and Netflix.
We’ve received generous support from individuals and organizations who believe in our project from day one. Their help has allowed us to come a long way, but we need your assistance to cross the finish line and get James story — and its larger implications for us all — shared with the world.
It's also more than just the money we need. A Kickstarter campaign allows us to build a community of smart, involved people who care about alternative medicine and the pursuit of a deeper truth that lives within each of us. We want our backers to be engaged partners on the journey of THE LAST SHAMAN— we’ll be reaching out to you with ideas, updates and information and hope that you'll do the same.
Documentary storytelling can have powerful results. A film about real people and real issues can ignite conversations and spark policy changes like few other things can. BLACKFISH exposed the mistreatment of orca whales and SeaWorld took a hit. INVISIBLE WAR, a film about rape in the military, triggered changes in the way sexual abuse charges are handled. GRANITO: HOW TO NAIL A DICTATOR helped convict Guatemala’s Gen. Rios Montt of war crimes.
Our goals is to use THE LAST SHAMAN to spur organic conversation and bring wider attention to alternative forms of healing. We also want to give voice to the personal struggles that millions of people face as they confront depression and seek solutions, both outwardly and within themselves. Their challenges aren't often reflected in mainstream media. We want our film to inspire acceptance and spark action that will lead to healing.
We're launching our film with the support of some really great organizations, including:
We have 30 days to meet our $40,000 goal and raise funds that will allow us to prepare and distribute THE LAST SHAMAN to theaters and online platforms. If we don’t meet it, we don’t get to keep any contributions. It’s all or nothing, so please lend your support!
Risks and challenges
Since THE LAST SHAMAN is finished, we have far fewer risks than a project that's just beginning.
The biggest risk we face now is not reaching our project's full potential. If we raise the necessary funds, we'll be able to release our film in theaters across the U.S. and, later, on digital platforms. We'll garner press attention and bring crucial awareness to one young man's journey to save his life that led to an understanding of how we’re all connected.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
