Hello Minty Mountaineers!
Thank you so much for joining me here and a big thank you to those of you who have already made a pledge and contributed towards my new kiln goal! I am thrilled to have met my project target and to be in a position to add stretch goals!
* * * Wooohah - STRETCH GOALS * * *
Stretch Goal One: Slab Roller - £150 in additional funds £1000 project total (inc fees)
A slab roller allows me to hand build my pots and plates at a faster rate and with more final consistency. The roller rolls the clay flat, clean and smooth and more importantly to the same thickness. This will mean my hand built work will have a more even drying process resulting in less loss during firing. It will also speed up my production process allowing me to offer more made to order slots with shorter turn around times.
Stretch Goal Two: Pottery Wheel £250 in additional funds £1300 project total (inc fees)
After having to sell my pottery wheel to pay home bills I started a new venture into hand building ceramics and the journey has been fun but challenging. An ultimate goal would be to be able to purchase a refurbished kick wheel so I can continue to offer a wider range of shapes and designs and to produce a higher volume of ready to post items in larger batches.

Here is my story so far...
I am a self-taught potter based in Buckinghamshire, working around my little family and grumpy cat. I spent 3 years saving to set my own small studio up. It was so liberating to be able to purchase my kiln, pottery wheel and small garden shed along with a whole bunch of exciting accessories. I was set up and ready to throw myself in at the deep end.
I have already been overwhelmed by the continued support from my followers and the crafting community. I really have been able to realise my dream, and since 2013 I have been sending pieces of my work from the UK all over the world. In fact, I have sent orders to 23 different countries; from Russia to Japan, from Scotland to Hawaii, from Mexico to Alaska. I have sent orders to 39 of the US states and for over 1000 sales recorded on Etsy, I have a 100% 5 star feedback rating. I am extremely proud of my achievements and more importantly, I still love what I do.
Sadly at the start of this year due to personal circumstances I had to sell my pottery wheel to cover a months rent. To say this broke my heart would be an understatement - but I have managed to continue to run my little business by individually had building each order. As long as I had my kiln and my clay, I was golden.
Alas, my kiln has recently started to misfire and after a short investigation and consultation it looks like her days are numbered. I've been able to source a temporary fix for a limited number of firings to complete outstanding orders, but unfortunately I have had to stop production of my most popular made-to-order items, as I can not currently guarantee quality or success. It's a bit of a punch in the gut, especially as this income is so vital for me here.
A working kiln is an essential to a small potter like myself. I have decided to purchase a refurbished kiln, and have already found two possibilities. I can't afford to fund the purchase entirely, but I do have a small amount of savings set aside for Christmas that I will be putting into the kiln fund as a float. So, I am looking for your to help to raise the remaining amount, enabling Minty Mountain to get back up and running.
Thank you all for your kind words and continued support. I am forever grateful to you all!
Risks and challenges
As my business model is already running and my products are tested and well established the risks are reasonably low.
I have already stopped producing made to order items until a kiln can be secured.
I have secured two possible kilns and have a third back up option.
I will be making as many rewards as I can when they come in to ensure a swift turn around and dispatch to pledgers.
I already have a qualified electrician on standby to test the kiln so I can get cracking!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
