The Industry produces new and experimental performance with an inaugural production of the unconventional hyperopera Crescent City.
We are so thrilled to share with you the first project from our production company, The Industry: Crescent City, a hyperopera!
The Industry produces new and experimental works that merge music, visual arts, and performance to expand the traditional definition of opera. Based in Los Angeles, the company strives to fuse the city’s visual and musical scenes with exciting interdisciplinary work.
Featured twice in New York City Opera’s VOX showcase of new American opera, The Industry’s inaugural production, Crescent City, tells a fantastical tale of a mythical city destroyed by one hurricane and the voodoo priestess determined to save it.The opera is composed by Anne LeBaron, widely recognized for her work in instrumental, electronic, and performance realms, and librettist Douglas Kearney, a poet and performer and recipient of the Whiting Writer’s Award.
Premiering May 10, 2012 at Atwater Crossing in Los Angeles, this unconventional, site-specific production allows audiences to experience new opera in 360 degrees in an industrial warehouse space, with an extreme landscape built by six of LA’s most exciting visual artists.
As we gear up for this ambitious, whimsical and more-than-exciting world premiere, we need your support!
We are poised to make a vital impact in the world of pioneering performance art, and your contribution to Crescent City helps to expand and solidify The Industry’s reach on the national level for experimental work, furthermore making Los Angeles a leading destination for artistic exploration. Let’s raise $15,000 together!
We look forward to sharing our process with you and stay tuned for exciting updates! Check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheIndustry!
