"If we want to go far, go together... "
We're raising 100,000 euros this June 2019 to fund our next stage of growth.
We'd love to do it with you. Help us do this in 8 lucky days (Asian auspicious number)!
Since 2016, The Hood Paris have filled our humble little space with incredible people, food and music. It has been an exciting journey and we've learnt so much.
Now it's time to G R O W. The improved and renovated Hood will retain its 70s decor whilst continuing to facilitate the universal ideals that great food, great coffee, great music brings people together.
The Hood Paris is ready to move into our 2nd phase with operational improvements to our space which we've out-grown.
You can support our development and our journey in Paris from WHERE YOU ARE !
Participate by paying ahead, either for your meals when you visit us in Paris for dinner, brunch/ breakfast or lunch, or for your team/office catering needs! Masterclasses and Supper Clubs planned in selected cities are also opened for pre-booking with our co-founder and Winner of Masterchef France, Khanh-Ly Huynh!
BUT FIRST, WHO ARE WE?
The Hood Paris was founded in May 2016 to provide a gathering space in the heart of Paris, with food, coffee, music, community and creativity at its heart. We are located in the heart of one of most vibrant, diverse streets in Paris 11th arrondissement, rue Jean Pierre Timbaud.
3 years on, our intention remains the same: to create not only an affordable bistronomic coffeeshop-bistro serving Asian inspired street food, but also provide a space for an entire community (local and international) to call their own.
Anyone can walk in and somehow feel that they belong.
Our mission statement says it best: "The Hood is for everyone, The Hood is Yours" .
By making our space available to so many different people and cultures, and running events that support our mission (over 100 events to date), we’ve truly built a little community that brings life to The Hood beyond just food and drinks.
Bringing people together has always been our passion and we wanted to create a permanent space to encourage just that especially in a world that is increasingly divisive.
FOOD & DRINKS ! WHAT'S ON OUR MENU ?
Of course, at the heart of what we do is Asian-French food, and specialty coffee from the one of the best coffee roasters in Berlin (The Barn Berlin) and Paris (Hexagone Cafe).
Our menu reflects our roots and our love for travels and Asian street food. Therefore our focus on Asian-inspired flavours in our Brunch, signature Banh Mis all-day, and evening shared plates. Regardless of our various origins, we speak the same language through food (and coffee and music).
Khanh-Ly (Winner of Masterchef France and our co-founder) is our culinary creative mastermind, together with Liran Tal (as our Head Chef), originally from Tel Aviv, who developed the menus at various well-known restaurants in Paris.
Combined, our breakfast-to-dinner menu is always surprising and always hits the spot.
The goals and mission of The Hood Paris is what drew these two incredibly talented chefs to continue to work together to devote their time at Hood Paris.
Our day to evening SIGNATURE is definitely the BANH MI (#thebanhmiisyours) best savoured with our house-made SRIRACHA sauce and vegan mayonnaise.
All our dishes are prepared with locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, with our condiments, spice mix, sauces and syrups all made in-house.
We also proudly believe we make the best pandan chiffon cake in town!
Once a quarter, we also host a pop-up with cooks/ chefs who wish to share their food culture in Paris. We've done Brunch from Tel Aviv Street food to Korean-Tacos, Indian Curry to Rakusaba (Laksa x Ramen)... and of course the ever popular Hainanese Chicken Rice. Whoever decided that Brunch is just about pancakes and avocado toasts?
WHY ARE WE CROWD-FUNDING?
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
Renovations have become crucial to allow us to continue to keep everyone well fed through the day (and evenings), without compromising on the welcoming experience we want everyone to have at The Hood.
- None of this is glamorous but it has to be done: increasing our kitchen space/capacity, refurbishing our window front from the wear and tear, strengthening our security system against burglaries, updating our ventilation system, our insulation for winter.
- We have to evolve with the needs of the community. The changes are crucial to ensure we can continue to serve everyone consistently and better though our service and operations.
The renovation is NOT for aesthetics or vanity ! We will keep The Hood unpretentious, humble and welcoming, while providing a higher quality of service and food and drinks.
Why this urgency when you're seemingly doing well?
Construction work needs to take place from mid July to mid September, a period where Paris moves into summer holiday season.
We need to ensure by 1st week of July we can secure the renovation start-date with contractors, and the material and equipment required to get us back on track mid September.
First deposit to the contractors are due around week of 22nd July. We therefore need to complete the campaign successfully by 1st of July to receive the Kickstarter proceeds by 21st July (21 days lead time).
100,000 euros is... a lot?
Yes it is. And it’s not even all of it. That’s why we need your help for part of it.
- Security curtain and facade : 26,000
- Electrical / Heating / Ventilation, plumbing, flooring, painting: 60,000 (including 5K demolition) : 60,000
- Bar & Kitchen equipment: 10,000
- Loose furniture : 10,000
- Bar & Misc Carpentry : 18,000
- Kitchen Countertops Carpentry: 15,000

After deducting Kickstarter fees and related credit card commissions from the campaign, we will receive a net amount of 90 K euros (estimate) if we reach the minimum target !
We will have to also cover the costs of all the rewards offered in the campaign.
We are working with our local bank to finance the remaining requirements.
WHAT IF WE DON"T REACH OUR TARGET?
The concept of Kickstarter is

She will also be involved in delivering all the rewards within Paris and internationally. More questions ?
We'd love to hear from you. Tell us what you think, ask us anything ! Until the completion of the campaign and delivery of the rewards, we will be dedicating time to keep you updated with our progress as we have always done through our various social media channels and privately.
Risks and challenges
The risks are limited to cost and time over-run with the contractors.
We have been planning the renovations with our architect for a few months now and have since obtained Paris regulatory approvals before proceeding with the works.
We have done our projections and know how much is needed to get us to re-opening. These projections include a cost contingency of 15% to ensure we are able to meet all our liabilities through the 2-month renovation period.
The 100,000 euros target is the minimum to get things moving.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
