About

The Great Planet Earth Debate is a class in a concert multimedia experience setting, which manages to tie together empirical scientific data about our relationship with energy and through the use of live music, footage and text creates an emotionally engaging experience that is presented at a desirable and effective speed and aesthetic for today’s youth.

A format that presents an idea, a vision of what education in the future will be like. A powerful tool for teachers to help the students make the connection between school subjects like science and math and how this information will help them have a higher standard of living.
Three giant screens (which together measure around 75 feet long) are synced to a live band and presented in Surround Sound. The show also includes a pre-test and a post-test.
The show can be presented in both English and Spanish.

Here are some excerpts from the footage and subjects presented in the show.

In September 2010 The Great Planet Earth Debate was featured at the "SUAGM 8th Educational Summit" in my native Puerto Rico before 2,000 university level teachers to a standing ovation. I was awarded an Honorary Degree for the project. http://www.miprv.com/ip-se-presenta-en-el-8vo-congreso-educativo-del-sistema-universitario-ana-g-mendez/

Some of the comments we got from teachers and students:

The Goal:

To start with a tour of Austin area schools and be able to bring the show to their theaters or gymnasiums at no cost to the school or students. The Great Planet Earth Debate has been presented to the 12 AISD high school principals. They loved the presentation we made and dates are being scheduled now for live performances on those campuses during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.

Then from there, we plan to take the live tour beyond the city limits of Austin and to the surrounding school districts.

There is no energy crisis. There is only a crisis of ignorance." R. Buckminster Fuller

An official website will be created which will include a "Living Bibliography" where further references and information will be made available to the students in order for them to further explore the concepts and personalities presented in the show.

Some of these concepts are:

Energy

Intelligence and the human brain

Planet Earth

Renewable Energy: Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Ocean Thermal

The Human Genome Project

Maglev Trains

Leonardo Da Vinci

Galileo Galilei

Isaac Newton

Nikola Tesla

R. Buckminster Fuller, among others

The website will also serve as an update for the tours. Videos, showing clips from our live presentations will be uploaded regularly. These clips will include reactions from the students.

"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by an inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfold into success." Nikola Tesla

The funds will be used to:

Pay for the rights to the film footage used in the live presentation.

Pay for production staff including musicians, technicians, and project employees.

Pay for sound, projectors, screens, lighting, transportation and all other production costs associated with a tour.

Pay for the creation of merchandise and promotional materials such as CDs, T-shirts, posters, printed programs, and other educational materials.

Pay for the creation of an official website where students will be able to further explore concepts presented in the show.

If the original sum is exceeded, surplus funds will be used to expand the tour to additional schools. Funders will be credited in the printed program and also on the official website. Please feel free to contact me about presenting "The Great Planet Earth Debate" to schools in your area.
