We're Holli & Sara, best friends and co-creators of The Goddess Project! Two years ago we took a leap of faith to create the movie that we have always dreamt of; a film that showcases multifaceted women being open, honest, and real.
In November of 2012, we launched our first Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of The Goddess Project and successfully raised over $10,000 from people around the world who wanted to help us bring more diverse female role models to the big screen. A week later something even more amazing happened- a kind stranger gave us the veggie oil powered bus he had been living in because he believed in our mission to empower women! We saw these incredible acts of kindness as affirmations that the world was ready for a film of this nature, so we condensed our lives into two suitcases and hit the road with one goal in mind; to travel across America interviewing inspiring women with a passion for the life they live!
Throughout our 6 month and 10,000 mile journey, we met incredible women from all walks of life who bravely volunteered to bare their souls in front of our lens. Everywhere we stopped, whether it was at a coffee shop or rest stop, we were amazed by the number of people who wanted us to meet an inspiring woman in their life! We interviewed artists, mothers, healers, businesswomen and scholars about the life-changing experiences that shaped them to become who they are today. Almost every interview ended in tears because we were so moved by each of these women and their willingness to let us share their stories with the world. By highlighting the stories of over 100 women in the same film, we aim to bridge the gaps that separate us from one another and show the infinite possibilities that exist when you step into your own power! We believe that hearing these women talking about their stories of overcoming adversity and empowering themselves will show girls and women many different ways that they can do it too!
The Goddess Project will help usher in a new way of thinking; a positive affirmation that these stories, our stories, matter. If there is one thing we've learned throughout this journey, it's that no matter who you are or what you believe, there is someone out there just waiting to discover their possibilities in your reality. The women in this film have given us powerful tools that have transformed our lives, and we can’t wait to share their insightful wisdom with the world! Movies play a huge role in shaping culture andwe need more films that educate and empower women rather than perpetuating negative stereotypes and limiting beliefs. The Goddess Project is more than just a film, it is a movement to inspire women of all ages to join together, start conversations, and create space for infinite possibilities.
In order to finish this film, it is crucial that we raise $50,000. For the past two years we have been working tirelessly to assemble over 300 hours of footage, and have dedicated every penny that we’ve made to bringing this film to life. We have gotten to this point by creatively combining our skills and balancing multiple jobs in order to make it work. The reality is that we are two girls wearing the hats of an entire production team, and in order to move forward we need your help to expand our team.
Your contribution will enable us to hire an assistant editor, sound designer, and a team of mixed media artists to help illustrate the powerful concepts discussed in these interviews. Your donation will also go towards color correcting, mastering, festival fees, marketing, and distribution.
We know that this is a lot of money to ask for, but we are 100% dedicated to making this film the best that it can be. Our goal is to finish The Goddess Project by the end of this year and to have it screening worldwide in 2015. In order to receive any donation from this campaign, we must reach our goal of $50,000. If we do not reach our goal, our supporters will not be charged for their pledge. It's all or nothing. For example, our target is $50,000, if we reach $45,000, we get nothing. We must reach this target to make this dream a reality, so please make a contribution, whether it be small or big, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you have played your role in helping us share these empowering stories with the world!

In Shine, we invited 10 women to come together, shed their layers, and return to nature. By removing comparisons, competition, and conditioning, the women were given a space to look inward. What remains? Embraced individuality. What can be seen? The potential to overcome obstacles of negative self image with the support of other women. Stepping into our own light is giving ourselves the power we know we deserve, and it encourages others to do the same.
Risks and challenges
After spending 6 months living out of a 6x10 foot space with no amenities, we feel pretty confident that we can do anything we set our minds to! We may be young and ambitious, but we are focused and dedicated with the knowing in our hearts that this film can help transform the lives of people around the world. We face new challenges everyday and are constantly working together to overcome any obstacle that stands in our way.
