In 2008 I came off a year and a half of consistent theatre work and walked into a recession that I didn't realize was happening around me. One night whilst being unemployed I was watching inside the Actors studio with the cast of Raymond. At the end of the episode Patrica Heaton advises us young actors to create for ourselves. We have to make our own work she preached and from that came my idea for The Gay Gourmet!™
The Gay Gourmet!™ is my idea for a variety cooking show! Think Judy Garland/Lawrence Welks/Carol Burnett meet a Rachel Ray/Paula Deen type of show.
"Why?" Do you ask? Well for starters it combines my two passions cooking and musical theatre! Think about it... an educational cooking program in the old variety show style. You'll never know who's gonna stop by, who's gonna break out into song or what's gonna happen next!
My next reason is because I feel that I know a ton of people who can't cook, are afraid to cook or simply hate cooking. I love cooking! I hate dishes...but I love cooking! I think it's fun! It certainly a way to be creative and I want to pass that love on to the masses and maybe educate some people or change peoples minds about cooking!
Lastly, with all these cooking shows on television now, nothing/no one makes cooking look fun. Interesting...yes..difficult or time consuming..most definitely but where is the fun?!?! It's time we go back to basics and inspire people to enjoy what they are creating! Plus with all the reality T.V. or drama series that are airing now this would certainly be a breath of fresh air!
After lot of thinking and figuring out 2 years later my blog/twitter/facebook etc were born and I have been lucky to have over 30,000 hits in under a year! I was hoping to use my tiny social media empire as a launching pad to get my show off the ground and now it's time to take the next leap forward!
On January 12th I am hoping to have a small shindig for my blogs 1st anniversary. On that day I would like to unveil my new blog interface and announce that I have a team gathered to record the pilot episode of The Gay Gourmet!™ Obviously it's high time I have some quality footage to pitch to the networks and by giving the blog a makeover it will attract more readers, followers and hopefully people who can help me make my dreams come true!
But all of this cost money which I have very little of.. :( from web designers, to arrangers, to dancing boys, to videographers and more; these people are not cheap! Your support has been tremendous thus far and I already can't thank you all enough! Now is the midway push to get me to the next platform and why not be someone who can say "I helped that guy make his dreams come true!!!"
If there was ever a Christmas wish that I had it would certainly be that I can really make this happen. The best part about it is that you can help me do it! Every dollar counts so don't be shy! Thanks again in advance and I hope the next time you see me is from your television screen bringing you laughs and good cookin!
