White Ash is an ongoing comic book series written by Charlie Stickney, with art and letters by Conor Hughes and colors by Fin Cramb. Thanks to our amazing backers and fans, we’ve ridden the strength of FOUR incredible Kickstarters to become an indie comic hit that will be exhibiting at San Diego Comic Con again this summer.
NOTE: We've just added a new Hughes Color Variant on the dust jacket. (see below the rewards) There are a limited number of unsigned copies available. But anyone who gets a signed version of the book will be given the choice to select from any of our color variants when you fill out your survey.
If you’re returning to White Ash, thank you so much. We couldn't do any of this without you. And we think we’ve cooked up something pretty special for you this time around. (Feel free to scroll down and check out the rewards) If you’re new to our town, WELCOME. We can’t wait to show you the place… and we hope you survive your stay.
This campaign is to raise funds to print White Ash: Volume One -- a 200 page HARDCOVER collecting the first four issues of White Ash and an ALL NEW STORY exploring a forgotten chapter of the town’s history.
The book also features an art gallery with slew of White Ash pin-ups by some incredible artists. AND if we hit our stretch goals, we're going to add a few more pages to the gallery.
Welcome to White Ash, a small smudge of a mining community in Western Pennsylvania, where the secrets are buried even deeper than the coal under the mountain. If you’re a fan of Supernatural, Twin Peaks or Lord of the Rings, you’re going to love getting to know our mysterious town.
In Chapter One, we met Aleck who'd been counting down the hours till he could get the hell out of town and head off to college.
But an apparent accident at the mine stalled his exit, setting him down a life-altering path.
One that brought him into the orbit of the enigmatic Lillian Alden.
There was a natural chemistry between the two... some would even call it HOT. But not as hot as Thane Alden's burning rage would have been if he found out Aleck was spending time with his daughter.
Aaaand from here on out, we're going to get into heavy SPOILER TERRITORY so be forewarned.
However, If you want to see one, last, spoiler-free breakdown of what White Ash is about, you can watch this short "get to know our town" video made by the White Ash Chamber of Commerce.
What? You still need more convincing before you pledge? You do? Well, okay, you can download a 25 page ashcan (a FREE comic book) of Chapter One HERE.
***HERE COME THE SPOILERS***
Shortly after the accident, Aleck discovered that nothing about White Ash or his life is what it seemed; and that there’s a reason he’s short, stubborn, and can grow a beard in a day — he comes from a family of...
Yep Dwarves. And if that wasn’t enough of a kick in the head, Lillian, the young woman he’s just fallen for, isn’t just the daughter of the owner of the White Ash Mining Company, she’s also an elf.
So there you have it. White Ash is just a simple tale, old as time, of forbidden elf/ dwarf romance, set against the backdrop of the oncoming war with The Brood... which we kinda neglected to mention earlier. The Brood is a race of dragon/human hybrids whose origins harken back to how the Elves and the Dwarves got here (White Ash) in the first place.
Sadly, if it were only as easy as overcoming a blood feud that started when the Earth was still young, an army of dragon/human hybrids, and some overly-opinionated relatives, Aleck and Lillian would already be on their way to living happily ever after. But as this is White Ash, bad things have a habit of happening to good people.
But let's not give any more away, you can read it all inside...
White Ash: Chapter Volume One.
This 200 page hardcover, in a wraparound dust jacket by Conor Hughes and Fin Cramb, collects all four of our over-sized issues and includes an ALL-NEW BACK UP STORY that reveals a bit of White Ash's hidden history.
We've also commissioned a slew of original White Ash pin-ups from some incredible artists including:
Nate Clesowich, Karl Kesel, Romina Moranelli, Emily Pearson and Nick Robles.
The book will also contain a cover gallery featuring all of our main covers and amazing variants.
In our past campaigns we've offered some amazing variants. For White Ash: Volume One, we're excited to offer an exclusive to Kickstarter, color variant of our cover painted by the amazing Nick Filliardi.
Nick is an incredibly busy guy, currently splitting his time between Nightwing for DC, The Umbrella Academy for Dark Horse and The Realm for Image comics. We're over the moon that he was willing to lend his considerable talents to White Ash.
Money raised will go toward artist fees, printing, backer rewards and shipping of the book. And if we're lucky enough to surpass our goal, any additional funding will be put directly back into the book in the form of commissioning additional pin-ups and adding more pages (Or paying for those extra shipping costs that always seem to hit). No one is looking to get rich here. (Otherwise we wouldn't be doing comics. Really, we wouldn't) We just want to ensure that we can produce an amazing high-quality comic book series that our backers will enjoy for years to come. And by creating a prestige trade, it gives us a way to attract new readers/fans at conventions to ensure we can continue producing White Ash for years to come.
We know what it's like to open up a package and find a mangled Kickstarter comic inside. We pack our books with the care that we used in making the comic and the love that we have for our backers.
Each book will be bubble wrapped and then placed inside our rigid White Ash mailer. The mailer is then placed inside another, padded envelope. Made in White Ash means everything from the content, to the mailer we use, meets our standards of quality.
In the past, we've created a lot of amazing swag. And in the future, we're going to continue that process. But for this Kickstarter we wanted to focus in on making the best hardcover we possibly can. If we're fortunate enough to hit some of these, they're all about making the book bigger and better.
Stretch Goal #1 ($17,500) Hi-ho Silver
Let's add some foil to the cover. (UNLOCKED)
Stretch Goal #2 ($19,500) Mystery Pin-Up #1

Stretch Goal #3 ($22,000) Mystery Pin-Up #2

We're going to commission another pin-up to be added to the book.
Add-Ons will be handled post campaign by our friends at Backerkit. If you want an extra copy of the hardcover, single issues of the comic or some of our swag from previous campaigns (Trading cards, post cards, prints, etc.) you will be able to select add those items for purchase after you confirm your shipping information. If you have a specific question about an add-on, please don't hesitate to directly message us.
Risks and challenges
This is our FIFTH Kickstarter. At this point we've worked out most of the kinks. We've hit our scheduled delivered date on our last Three Kickstarters (The last of the Chapter Four books are in the mail now). All the pages for the hardcover are finished and the book is ready to go to print. As soon as the KS funds, we’ll send out the PDF’s to our backers and the book off to the printer. And then we should be on to Chapter Five...
If there are any problems or delays, we'll be in touch. As you can see from the comments sections of our last few Kickstarters, we have lots of happy backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
