Solve environmental puzzles across three different timelines. How those timelines interact is another puzzle all on its own.

You wake up from cryosleep locked in a facility that has been abandoned in anticipation of an unnamed catastrophe. An artificial intelligence has tasked you with preventing this catastrophe with the assistance of an experimental device that gives you the power to alter time. You must use this newfound power to solve environmental puzzles that allow you to push deeper into the facility, leading you ever closer to the truth.

The facility exists in three different timelines, and each timeline presents the same puzzles in different states. Everything you do in one timeline affects each other timeline; not only do you have to work out the puzzle at hand, but how that puzzle fits into the grand scheme of each timeline.

The butterfly effect is the greatest puzzle of all. And once you solve it, you will come to know the terrible truth of the catastrophe.

Timeline jumping is the one mechanic that ties Chaos Theory: Entropy together. Very few games have explored this mechanic to their fullest extent, or used them as the basis for an entire game.

Most games that use time as a central mechanic have you take control of time itself – slow motion, rewinding, selective stasis – but few treat the very concept of time as a puzzle to be solved. Those that have tried lack the depth we were looking for.

So we decided to make the game we wanted to see in the world.

As an independent game studio on its first voyage, the only resources we have are those we bring to the table. That’s where Kickstarter comes in.

We waited until we were in Alpha so that people had some idea of what they were backing, and that we were serious about seeing the production of Chaos Theory: Entropy through.

The reason that many games never leave Alpha is because they don’t have a plan. For a studio our size, improper investment not only leads to a failed project, but to the disappointment of those who invested in us. Which is why we’re going into this budgeted down to the last penny.

Chaos Theory: Entropy is already here. We just need your help to make it into what it’s meant to become.

Chaos Theory Entropy revolves around the player being able to warp between three different Timezones (the Present, the Future, and a Further Future). These three time zones allow the player to traverse the levels, and dive deeper into the facility.

Here, the player is observing the differences between the future and the present before decided on how they want to apporach traversing the level.

The player sees the glass wall in their way of reaching the button, but they warp to the future to get past the glass wall, then return to the present to use the button.

Here the player sees how their actions affect the future. When they activate generators in the present, it cause new rubble collapses to appear in the future.

The player can find a path in the further future to avoid these deadly lasers.

Since the player can warp at anytime, giving that there is nothing blocking their position in the Timezone that they are attempting to warp to, this allows for the player to warp mid-air and allows them to reach areas they may normally not be able to reach in their current Timezone.

Warping also enables the player to safely avoid enviromental hazards. Be careful though, a player may also find themself warping into a dangerous area or even setting them back to where they have already been.

Enviromental hazards include lasers, exposed wires that shock the player, death pits, and more.

Here, the player sees the button doesn't work, so they attempt to manually repair it with a box (instead of wires).

Since we’re getting backers in at the Alpha-level, backer feedback and rewards can be tied directly to the development of the game.

Risks and challenges

We’re a small team with big dreams, and we’ve come too far to stop now. The only thing that’s holding us back is - ironically - time. We each need jobs to support ourselves, and we are only asking for the funds to guarantee the game’s completion.
If the game’s completion is a certainty, it’s the when that’s uncertain. That’s what backer updates are for. We have weekly all-hands meetings, and we plan on making our backers a part of that. Our rigorous update schedule will be followed with pushing monthly updates to the publically accessible Alpha. We intend to prove that we are doing all we can to make the uncertain certain.
