About this project
We're rallying to raise 15K in 30 days to record our NEW FULL-LENGTH ALBUM, "Moving Past"
Hello friends, we write to you from cloud 9, where we've been shaping the music for our new full-length album. The songs are written, and we're ready to close up shop to head into the studio, and bring these songs to life. We're raising funds here to support the expensive costs of recording an album the RIGHT way – we'd love your support in making this dream a reality.
For our previous full-length, we did EVERYTHING independently – paying for producers, design, mass production, making music videos, touring, hanging posters for shows, and everything else in between. For our new album, "Moving Past" we're asking for the support of YOU – our friends, families, and fans – to help make it happen! Our reasoning is simple: we want these songs FLOURISH, to THRIVE, and to make YOU a part of the process – to make this album something bigger than anything we could have ever dreamed of. Together, we know that we can do it.
We had a zany time coming up with these prizes. From pizza parties to tattoo parlors, we really tried to put ourselves in your shoes and ask what would make US want to get involved with another artist's campaign. BUT! If you think of something you'd like to see added to the list, let us know! This is less of a "transaction" and more of a conversation. Tell us what you're thinking, and how you plan to help spread the word! We want this to be a collaborative process from start to finish.
Here are a handful of the prize packages, so that you can get a feel for how our "all-of-the-above" tiered rewards system works:
Never heard of The Fold?
That's okay! Take a quick listen while you read through our Kickstarter rewards (to the right).

We Are Proud To Call You Partner!
It's the wild wild west in the music business right now, but we know one thing for sure: our fans are worth it! For us, each song, youtube, lyric or email we write to you is an inspired moment to connect with you guys. Through our years, we've never questioned that our fans would be there for us as we navigate the twists and turns - it's all the other factors that muddy the waters. We've written down each and every one of our goals, and they are all based around the friendships we've made throughout the years. Without that, we'd have lost the spark years ago.
We believe that closing the gap between bands and fans is the future of music. This is why we are so excited about our Kickstarter campaign, every dollar raised past $15,000 is a chance for us to dream bigger – to do the things that we could not while at the mercy of a record label. For us, it's not about finger pointing, but it IS about lessons learned, and smart stewardship with each dollar we raise. Your belief in this band is not something we take lightly, it is in fact something that we thank God for, every day.
We Gotta Raise $15K In 30 Days!
As you know, it's all or nothing when you're running a Kickstarter campaign. That means if we raise $14,999 and fall short of the goal, we don't get a dime. So we need your help! We need you to become a backer at any level you can manage, but just as importantly, we need you to tell everyone you know about what we're doing here! Click the like button on this page, post links to this campaign on your Facebook and Twitter, show all your friends this project and don't let up until the campaign is over, that's how we're going to make this project a success. We've got a pretty cool story here, this chapter should be fun!
In the end, being proud of the final we product we've created together is all we really need in order to call this one of the crowning achievements of our careers. In the words of Ray Charles, "I never wanted to be famous. I only wanted to be great." Fame isn't what motivates us, this has always been about dreaming, building, creating – we hope that spirit comes across in all that we do.
This project means freedom for us. It means that in the end, we will be proud each decision we make, we will be proud of everything we do. And we'll have you to thank for all of it.
This Is Just The First Step
This is a part of a bigger story... When you see our new album in the iTunes store or at your local record shop, when you hear a song from "Moving Past" on the radio, you'll know you played an integral part in the process.
Every note of each song will be a celebration – a musical renaissance – representing what is possible when enough people get together and believe in the power of the independent spirit.

And don't forget, things have changed!
There is no middle man anymore, YOU are now the media. Sure, we need your help raising the money to meet our goal but maybe even more importantly we need your help spreading the word about this campaign! Post a link to this page on your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and your blogs, tell your friends, TELL STRANGERS! We're in a race now - if we don't reach our goal in 30 days we get nothing. =( If we manage to raise more than our set goal, every additional dollar will make more and more possible for us. Thanks again for participating in making our dreams come true. We love you!
Risks and challenges
We may all lose our hearing one day, does that count as a risk?
We kid. Of course with every great project there consists risks and challenges after the project is funded. We'll need to act very fast and think on our toes (don't worry, we're good at it) to work out timeline with the producer/mixer/mastering engineer, and even beyond that there could be production delays for pressing the physical records.
We tell you all of this to show you that, to us, accountability is KEY in making this whole thing happen. That said, in order to make sure these risks as minimal as possible, we have chosen to work with producers and mixing/mastering studios that we know and trust. In this case, it's our first time pressing vinyl, so even though we've done our research and made sure we've asked every question we could think of, there will most certainly be a learning curve involved.
Whatever the case may be, we will 100% follow through on our promise to get you the most amazing product our band has ever released. If anything is even slightly delayed, our fans/backers will be the first to know!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I noticed most prizes also include all of the above prizes, does that mean that I get a Cubs or Ninjago shirt with any purchase over $29?
Great question! At the time we launched this Kickstarter, we made most of the prizes "all of the above" for convenience. This $29 prize was added a week or so into the campaign, and we neglected to note that it would only be available at said price point. We have since noted in the left column that it is not available to backers at any other level, since we would obviously run out of t-shirts. If you would like to increase your pledge by $29 and get one of these tees, we have no problem with that at all. In fact, we encourage it! Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused to any of you. Feel free to message us if you have any furthers questions or concerns about this matter.
We have decided for the purposes of this Kickstarter, to make sure that everyone $8 and up gets our music digitally, as that is the way most people listen. We understand that there are people who desire a physical copy, and that is why we've offered the colored vinyl option. We like it more than a CD because we can get a little fancier with the artwork and make it more custom than a CD which will either sit in a stack, or get used as a drink coaster. This is not to say there won't be CD's…If we raise enough funds, we have plans of getting a distribution deal in place for physical CD's to ship to the few records stores and hot topics around the country that still care about indie music. So, for now, it's not a period; more of a comma,
sorry, that bugs me, gotta end with a period. always end with a period.
Why is a band who has been on a label and released an independent album already now doing a Kickstarter campaign to fund an album? Aren't you rich, or something?
Oh, the wives-tales that exist about bands and their financial states…Truth is, The Fold has never made much off of what we do. It never mattered, and still doesn't. We're still in a bit of debt from "Dear Future, Come Get Me", which is part of the reason it's been so hard to pull the trigger and get in the studio on this new album. In 2009, Kickstarter didn't exist yet, so we had no choice but to get some credit cards and prove that we could still exist as an independent band. We've had some pretty big breakthroughs since then, such as racking up nearly 2.5 million views on our youtube channel, writing songs for brands, television and sports. Despite all that, still digging out of debt. If any of you are in bands or are friends with musicians, you know that there's ALWAYS something to pay for – from buying equipment to all kinds of insurance, shooting music videos, fixing the van and on and on... It's all good, we love this more than we don't and we're trying to make smarter and smarter choices every step of the way. I hope this clears things up a bit, on a real level. =)
Kickstarter does not support anything besides credit cards payments, perhaps a parent or loved one can help? If this is a dealbreaker for you, contact us and we will try to figure something out.
