A series of handwritten postcards and letters from the past arrive in your mailbox, addressed to YOU!
UPDATE! We are funded—this is happening! Yay! Thank you!
If we raise over $5000, we'll add a bonus item into the story! You'll get video content of M with you at Coney Island!
If we raise over $10,000, we'll add ANOTHER bonus item! Maybe a photograph of M, maybe a phone call. Something extra and cool.
Imagine this: you come home, open your mailbox, and there, mixed in with all the junk mail is a handwritten 1930s postcard from Coney Island, addressed to you. It is signed "M," and it appears this person misses you very much.
This is the beginning of a journey told through postcards, love letters and more. An epistolary story—think Griffin & Sabine or The Lake House, but in your mailbox!
Each piece will be designed to evoke the past, custom-printed, and then prepared by hand—hand-typed or hand-written. And addressed to you. The correspondence is to you, specifically, and tells the story of your love affair with the lovely and fetching "M."
This also would make a great gift—and can be delivered to whomever you'd like.
WARNING: You may want to let your significant other, if you have one, know about this project in advance, so as not to unnecessarily upset them.
Who is Gyda Arber?
I'm a writer/director/transmedia artist best known for creating the ARG theatrical experience Red Cloud Rising and the ipod noir Suspicious Package. You can check out reviews of the shows on my website, www.thefifthwall.info. This is my first attempt at writing a completed project without my writing partner and fiancé, Aaron Baker. On September 29, 2011, one month before our scheduled wedding, he went to sleep and never woke up. This project is dedicated to him.
Not to worry! We'll ask you your preferred gender and your ideal mate's gender, and tailor the story to fit.
Absolutely! Once we're ready to send them out, we'll be asking everyone for the address of the recipient. You can have it sent to yourself, or a friend. You just tell us where!
Ahh! I wish I could help! I created the $25 level to hopefully stir up initial interest in the project and get people to pledge early. But this level sold out way faster than anticipated. Unfortunately, to do the project, it's going to cost me more than $25 in postage and printing costs (each item has to be designed and custom printed, vintage cards, letterheads, envelopes, etc, ranges from $1-$3 per item, and that doesn't even count writing by hand or hand typing on a vintage typewriter each piece). I'm already going to lose money on every backer at the $25 level.
I still think this is a good deal at $50, though! Each piece will be a unique, hand-created item—and you're getting 8-12 of them!
