They must stop in every pub they pass as they walk across the country...
I was sitting around a camp fire with a friend of mine (Scotty) talking about restaurants and food we liked. After a few beers he asked me is there restaurants in Ireland you crave when you go home? There are a few, but I know he meant it in terms of BBQ and beers. I politely let him know that, the restaurant and the bar coming together was quite a new thing in Ireland. People usually get home at 5.45pm, eat dinner at 6pm, and sit around saying they're not going out until 7pm. Yet they get changed and walk to the pub at 8pm!! The pub being a place of drink rather than food.
We then discussed the idea of walking across the whole country of Ireland, pub to pub without needing a taxi or car; as long as you would stop at an occasional B&B on the way!
From this a thought came to mind! Could it work, what would the show be about and who would be in it?
Could it work?
I thought about it, mapped it and timed it. (based of averages - who knows with these guys?!) YES it could be done and with the places they would need to walk through, it should be done!
The show would be a 4 part documentary, each show being 30 minutes long. It would include the walking, arguing, laughter, and tears of the lads and locals, as well as visiting some of the best places in Ireland.
We plan for it as web series but will absolutely be shopping it around to networks.
What would the show be about?
This show would focus on the ability of "the odd American couple" (White Southern Marine and Black Detroit intellectual) trying to walk across Ireland without any other transportation but their feet! The premise of the show would be, can they walk across the country and drop into every bar they pass to meet the locals? Their only stopping points would be the PUBS and B&B's (to rest their heads!). The big question; Is Ireland as friendly as they say it is? Can they get across Ireland (Dublin to Galway) in 14 days, wander from place to place without booking a hotel or putting their hands in their pockets. How will the locals react to their insane ideas of a "normal" conversation? CHECK OUT THE VIDEO!!!
Who would be in it?
As per the short clip of their current random conversations in the video, these two are the most qualified crazies to
1. Do it!
2. Get the most out of the people and places they visit
3. Really bring the viewer into Irish culture and fun "craic"
I really hope you can help. As I see it, this will be the future of travel shows...
So, why do we need your help?
Basically, we need to get the people and equipment over to Ireland to shoot the show. We then need to edit and market the end product.
Ciaran O' Sullivan.
Risks and challenges
The weather - even in the summer!
Getting the lads across Ireland in 14 days! We have a pretty strict schedule set up but the very nature of the show might change those mid shoot.
