Welcome HORROR FILM JUNKIES (and a few thousand others) to the official Kickstarter page for the new FANGORIA ORIGINAL, "THE FACILITY"!
Anyone can make a film with gore and guts but only a FANGORIA ORIGINAL brings to you that rarity in horror motion films; a story that will actually hold your interest. (We're sure you've been there).
With the more-than-generous resources provided to us by Fangoria, which as you all know has long been THE NAME synonymous with horror, we have a great film in the V E R Y early stages of production. We just need a little bit of a push from Kickstarter and Friends to make this film a reality!
Now is YOUR chance to be directly involved in helping to bring this gripping horror-thriller film to the big screen!
After watching our trailer, you may think that we have everything all ready to start filming. But sadly, that is not the case. Two and a half minutes does not make a full feature.
We still have a lot more to do and that is why we need your help!
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE FILM
During Hurricane Sandy, a small group of local National Guardsmen are activated to guard an isolated government building. It’s in the middle of nowhere and they can’t figure out why they’re there. Their only orders are to let no one in and that if they have to go inside, they must remain on the ground floor. It seems to make no sense – to them.
What they don’t know is that this isolated structure is actually a facility from which a branch of government is conducting Top Secret experiments in genetic mutation. And so they also have no idea of the horrific consequences of these experiments – or how they themselves may very well become candidates.
LET US INTRODUCE OURSELVES
Fangoria - For those of you who don’t know Fangoria, (and you definitely should!) it is an internationally-distributed film magazine and website that specializes in everything and anything that's horror, slasher, splatter and similar exploitation. Fangoria has a 30 year legacy of providing the best in horror news coverage. And Fangoria has now evolved into Fangoria Entertainment which allows the company to branch out into more contemporary methods of providing both information and content to fans of the horror (and related) genre. THE FACILITY is the initial foray into this area and we feel that Kickstarter is a GREAT way to involve people of like minds in these productions.
Thomas DeFeo - Thomas DeFeo is a business owner as he continues to be a hands-on editor, designer, producer and director for television, online, and film. His work has garnered more than 120 awards including Emmy, Ace, Promax/BDA, and Telly awards as well as awards from the Chicago and New York Film Festivals. During his 25 years in the entertainment business, Mr. DeFeo was part of the various creative teams that helped launch The History Channel, the Sci Fi Channel, Bravo International, and the Biography Channel. In 1997, he acquired and incorporated Creative Group with partner Joe Avallone. Creative Group became a leader in the production and post production business in New York City through DeFeo's contacts with top tier cable customers. In 1999, DeFeo led Creative Group's initiative toward full, in-house production from conception through completion and started Moe Greene Entertainment as a fully owned LLC of Creative Group. In 2004, Tom's vision shifted to the acquisition of The Starlog Group along with it's leading horror magazine and website Fangoria.
David Gebroe - Since attending Boston University film school in the early 1990s, Dave Gebroe has written, produced, and directed almost a dozen short films. In 1997, his film 38 Geary won the Bronze Seal Award at England’s IAC Film Festival. The Homeboy, distributed worldwide by Urban Entertainment (co-producers of the hit comedy Undercover Brother), marked his debut as a feature film director/producer and received a huge nationwide video/DVD release in 2002. His follow-up was the 2006 horror hit Zombie Honeymoon. After a successful festival run (Slamdance, Sitges, Hamptons, Torino, San Francisco International, Fantasia, Oldenberg, and many others), Zombie Honeymoon was picked up for national distribution by Showtime, and internationally by Fabrication Films. Zombie Honeymoon II has been written, and the rock’n’roll werewolf film Bad Vibes is currently in development at The Woodshed, Elijah Wood’s production company.
Dogfish LLC - Dogfish LLC is a co-venture of two industry veterans (and friends), Steven Mackler and Simon Nuchtern. They are camera shy – and with good reason – but their bios will serve as a worthy substitute.
Steven Mackler - Steven has produced a dozen motion pictures and programs such as WIDOW’S PEAK which starred Mia Farrow and Natasha Richardson and was distributed by New Line, THE REJUVENATOR, for Sony Video and EUBIE starring Gregory Hines. He has also distributed more the 100 films including Ang Lee’s first feature film, PUSHING HANDS, Bryan Singer’s first feature film, PUBLIC ACCESS, as well as films directed by Fellini and Truffaut (not to mention dozens of not-so-great genre films -which are not worth mentioning).
Simon Nuchtern - Simon formed Katina Productions in 1989 after he left August Films, Inc. where he was President and Creative Director / Producer since its incorporation in 1967. August Films was a motion picture production and post–production company located in the mid–Manhattan film center district near Times Square. Nuchtern wrote, produced and directed a number of successful feature films and the company also worked in the post–production of other producers’ features, as well as a number of important industrial and commercial clients such as United Press International, Hanna–Barbera, Worldvision, Sesame Street, DuPont, Hercules, Viacom, Miramax Films and many others.
Lauren Cooper (Associate Producer) - Lauren is the manager and art director of this Kickstarter page and is heading the film's social media campaign. She has previously worked on award-winning production teams for NBC, MTV and ABC. In 2012, Lauren assisted in the production of The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, set to be released this summer.

WHERE ALL THE MONEY GOES
We have set a goal of $100,000 for our Fangoria Original. It's difficult to pinpoint how each dollar will be allotted until we have a final shooting script. However, we can tell you that not only will every penny end up on the screen, but in addition, the two partners of this Kickstarter page are contributing a great deal of "sweat equity" during pre-production, the actual production and post-production. These will not be re-paid as deferments but would certainly qualify as line item expenses. So that if we do raise $100,000, the production might get somewhere between $150,000-$175,000 in production value. And if we're fortunate enough to raise monies above the goal figure, every penny of that will also go on the screen.
We are committed to make the best film that can possibly be made for the money. And for those of you who have not previously been involved in production, you would be AMAZED at what intelligent, committed, creative people can do with very little money.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is to create a gripping horror film that people want to see and bring them to the edge of the seat. Scaring people is hard work and keeping them interested isn’t too easy either. And it takes a village to put it all together in just the right way. But we feel confident we have the team that can do it. (Dave Gebroe is a great start!)
Regarding the incentives, we will do our best to get you what you purchased as soon as possible, but we know delays can happen and we hope you will be patient with us. We will update our Kickstarter page as diligently as possible so you are always in the know. We want to focus our efforts on producing the kind of film you would like to screen and we will update our website whenever we can.
And you can stay tuned via the Fangoria website as well (www.fangoria.com).
