Welcome to The Embroidered Forest. An enchanted woodland themed tarot deck that I have hand embroidered.
***We reached the goal in 22hrs! We now have a stretch goal of £7,500. If/when we hit this we will use the extra funding to exponentially improve the quality of the deck: upgrade to silver foil (it is metallic Pantone printing in the video) and each order of the deck gets a map of the embroidered forest tarot cloth add on (for free)
A full 78 card luxury tarot deck based on the traditional Rider Waite Smith tarot. These cards are the standard tarot size. They feature silver metallic print on the front and back, silver gilded edges and are printed on high quality laminated thick 350gsm card. Each deck comes with a softback guidebook (including spreads) both fitting into a two-part rigid box.
The reward tiers;
The feel of this deck;
Each Major Arcana card has its own animal representing it
The minors. Each suit has their own animal and plant correspondence: Swords are bees and dandelions for how they interact with the element of air.
Wands are foxes and sunflowers for their vibrancy reminiscent of vivid fire.
Cups are swans and lilies for their gentle grace upon water’s Surface.
Finally pentacles are hares and daisies for their grounded earth element.
Why; I started this deck because I wanted to improve my almost non-existent embroidery skills and deepen my understanding of tarot. I was also recovering from crippling anxiety and depression and this deck inadvertently gave my life a purpose, something to wake up for. Yes I did deepen my tarot knowledge and get better at embroidery but what I didn’t expect was that from the start of this project to a year later I would be a different person. I am confident and happy again and it was the creation of this deck that pulled me through the darker times. To have this campaign be successful would mean the absolute world to me.
Where the project is at; I hand embroidered these cards by myself, I would then scan them and apply the metallic printed details in photoshop. The entire process has taken a year. The designs are with the printers and I have received a test deck (pictured and videoed) of supreme quality that I am very pleased with. All the work is done and just waits for successful funding. The decks take 4 weeks to print and arrives at my door and I can ship them via a collection courier as soon as I receive them.
What the funding is for; The funding is for the printing and shipping of this deck. I am not allowing myself a salary. To account for my time would make this deck astronomically expensive. I just want to see this deck out there and enjoyed. I have plans to turn a profit later maybe with online mass publishing like amazon or similar in the future and a successful Kickstarter campaign will significantly increases my chances of that but for now I want to share this deck with everyone that it resonates with.
Risks and challenges
The challenges have included the sheer volume of embroidering this many projects. I stuck with it and I can honestly say I am proud of my work.
The current risks and challenges are very small, the printers may get busy and there could be a delay in printing time if this project were to absolutely blow up. I am fulfilling the shipping requirements by myself at home with a collection courier and therefore could also be slower if this project goes mad. But I anticipate reaching my smaller goal and will keep my backers informed at every step of the way and will change up my plan to best accommodate everyone and meet the deadlines.
Quite possibly the biggest risk is that if this campaign is unsuccessful I have wasted a year of work but I really do believe in the success of this deckLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
