Being an independent musician who plays in any genre of traditional roots music is the true definition of a labor of love. It's not an easy road, but the worthwhile and meaningful things in life seldom are. Classic country music has been described as 'three chords and the truth' and though the path that inspires The Earnest Lovers might be well worn, it still has the power to tell our stories, sometimes surrounding us in heartbreak and loss, sometimes holding us in arms of great love and beauty. We're so excited to be heading into the studio the week of February 23rd to record our debut EP, a collection of 6 original songs written collaboratively by Pete and Leslie over the past 6 months. The album will feature our full band consisting of drums, upright bass, telecaster and pedal steel as well as special guest instrumentalists. Production will be left in the capable and creative hands of Jon Neufeld. We have been working hard to bring this big undertaking to fruition, and we are asking for the generosity of our community to help and support us along the way.
In return for your financial support, we'll be able to make an album of authentic, uncompromised original music straight from the heart. Your pledges will go towards studio time, engineering, production, mixing & mastering, musician compensation, CD duplication, artwork, rewards fulfillment, and includes a budget for national press and radio promotion. We have included stretch goals for vinyl production and additional PR services, but our base budget will allow the album to be created and promoted without corner-cutting or compromise. It is with your help that we will be able to make a high-quality product worthy of your ears!
In this age of mass-produced music, it is so important to keep true songwriting alive. Kickstarter and other crowd-funding platforms provide independent artists the ability to produce quality art without the stress of financial worry or limitations of commercial ties. We thank you in advance for your generosity, and we look forward to seeing you at a show sometime soon!
As we near our goal with time to spare, it's time to announce our once-only-dreamed-for stretch goals...the things we plan to do should we exceed our goal! We kept our Kickstarter funding goal to the bare-minimum of what we needed to produce a high-quality product and ensure it would be released with a proper PR push. But there are 'extras' we'd be so pleased to accomplish if the support is there:
$21,000 We opted for the mid-tier PR package; substantial to be sure, but an extra $2000 will allow us to move to the top-tier offering, reaching the highest possible number of media contacts;
$24,000 VINYL! We'd really love to make a 10" record, and raising an addition $3000 will make that happen! Since we know many of you who pledged would prefer vinyl, but we are unable to guarantee it before the close of this campaign, we can offer that any backer who pledges at the $25 level or up may purchase a record, should we meet this funding goal, at cost. $6!
$25,000 Additional studio support. The budget to bring in additional instrumentalists as well as a vocal coach is our next wish. Any funds we raise over $24,000 will be allocated to the music!
Special thanks to Kyle Eaton and Madison Rowley for the video, and Sean Flora at the Rock and Roll BnB for sound. That's Rusty Blake on steel guitar.
Risks and challenges
Under the expert direction of Producer Jon Neufeld (Black Prairie, Jackstraw, Martha Scanlan), and with a band comprised of true professionals, we'll be giving our songs the finest of treatment at Type Foundry studios. Pete brings over 25 years of experience as a professional musician to the table, having made 17 albums over the course of his career. Leslie is newer to the scene, but no greenhorn, having successfully made her first full-length album with Copper & Coal in 2012. While there are always unforeseen circumstances possible with any project, we are confident that our experience, planning, and dedication to this album will bring it off without a hitch.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
