By 2015, an estimated 36,000 people will have contributed to a monumental 32,000 square foot wrap.

Our goal is to have construction ready drawings created for Wrapping the Saturn V Moon Rocket project.

Since 2009, we have received art submissions involving more than 15,000 students and individuals from 363 communities. So far, this wrap has grown to 12,000 square feet in size.

By 2015, an estimated 36,000 people will have contributed to a monumental 32,000 square foot wrap.

The Dream Rocket Project started in 2009 with an ultimate goal of collecting 8,000 works of art which will be assembled side by side to wrap the Saturn V Moon Rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama for a temporary exhibition in 2015. So far, art submissions have been received by individuals, groups, and schools from 17 countries, 46 states, and 363 communities. Over the last three years, 132 venues have exhibited these submissions in communities across our nation.

"The Dream Rocket is monumental and mostly made by little kids, like ants moving the rubber tree plant! I would love to come and help somehow. I share your spirit of missions made possible." - Laurie Carlson Stéger

“We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone….. And whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weaving's of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” -Sandra Day O’Connor

Your pledge will:

Make it possible for our team to hire an engineering firm to complete construction ready drawings for the wrap of the Saturn V Moon Rocket. It is estimated that the creation of these drawings will take two months from start to finish. Engineers will work with our team and other persons of interest such as contractors, designers, architects, fabrication and manufacturing companies to discuss and determine the best structural support for our wrap. They will be expected to locate the most appropriate companies to fabricate, build and install the entire wrap.

Engineers will have to follow strict requirements in accordance with the 2009 Edition of the International Building Code (IBC 2009). Display framework will need to mimic the shape and contours of the rocket, be suspended from the existing structure and not touch the actual rocket display. Construction documents will include an installation plan showing how everything goes together. Support points on the existing structure will be determined from interpretation of a laser (LiDAR) scan. This scan will need to be manually loaded into a professional CAD program. The fabric panels will not be allowed to touch the rocket structure in any way and will need to be independently supported from the roof or floor.

As you can see, creating these drawings is much more complicated than just drawings on paper. It is through these drawings that all facets of the construction, installation, cost and various other issues will have to be resolved by a licensed professional.  Upon completion, we will have the necessary documentation to present to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Smithsonian, and any additional parties to continue advocating our goal to wrap the real Saturn V Moon Rocket.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

We would like to begin this discussion about risks and challenges with a quote from Neil Armstrong:

"I think we're going to the moon because it's in the nature of the human being to face challenges. It's by the nature of his deep inner soul ... we're required to do these things just as salmon swim upstream."

The International Fiber Collaborative programs have been a catalyst for creativity in health care facilities, libraries, schools, museums, and other locations. They have generated 18,528 submissions collected from an estimated 13,058 individuals as part of three major projects.

Fortunately, we have a team of teachers, volunteers, and professionals who have committed themselves to finding solutions for making challenges, like wrapping the real Saturn V, more possible.
