>>>UPDATE! With 30 minutes left to go here, it's looking pretty unlikely that we'll reach our fundraising goal. It's too bad that Facebook deleted our fbook page and all the Party event pages midway through the funding and destroyed our efforts. In spite of it all, we still managed to raise over $3000 (which will now be automatically refunded to you). Huge thanks to everyone who supported the cause. Have no fear, the Party Revolution will live on, stronger than before, and many righteous things are on the immediate horizon, so STAY TUNED !
With your support, we just threw six open-source, crowdfunded Parties across Western Canada: Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, and Victoria.
And IF we get funded, we will throw nine more!

WHAT IS A DDP?
The Decentralized Dance Party (DDP) is a
portable, battery-powered Party System. It consists of hundreds of
Party people, carrying boomboxes, and a DJ who wears a backpack,
containing an FM transmitter. All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJ’s
master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system.
This Portable Dance Party roams the night, generating complete
awesomeness, street by street and block by block, onto buses and
subways, into public fountains and beyond. Inevitably interfacing with
the public, together we create an infectious epidemic of fun. A Roaming
Party Adventure that lasts all night long!
It has No Central Audio Source and No Central Location, hence the name "DDP"
An illustrative video:
We've now thrown 25 insane DDPs across Canada, and the
participants often numbered in the thousands. There's generally been a
small police presence keeping an eye on things, but no drinking tickets,
fights or any other problems one would expect from such large, wild
crowds. That is because the prime objective at a DDP is celebrating
life, enjoying music and having fun- not getting drunk and being an
If a Party is good enough, alcohol isn't required. The
atmosphere alone will cause people
to lose their inhibitions and freak out and drive the energy to
ridiculous heights and create an incredible experience for everyone.
Creating a Party like that is very hard to do, but it is our goal
every time. This vision is fully outlined in our Party Manifesto.
More than a Party, the DDP has proven to be a very interesting social
experiment; clearly demonstrating that thousands of people of all ages,
cultures and social groups can come together to celebrate life and get
crazy in our public spaces without causing any trouble. That is why the
DDP is also known as “The Party Revolution”. It is a unique force that
has the power to unify and inspire people in ways never before
WHERE DID IT COME FROM AND WHERE IS IT GOING?
DDP was invented by Tom and Gary, two lifelong friends from Vancouver.
"It started with one boombox, and an idea, to transmit to hundreds more..."
six short months, DDP attendance exploded from 20 people to 20,000
during Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympics. This meteoric growth can be
beheld in our "Evolution of the Decentralized Dance Party” video.
by this massive response,we resolved to take the DDP on the road, and
did so during our 2010 “Party Safari”, a self-funded adventure that saw
us sharing the joy and madness of the DDP with thousands of thrilled
Partygoers in seven cities across Canada from coast-to-coast.
now, we're in the midst of our second Party Safari. This one
is called the “Strictly Business Tour” and the plan is to wear only
Business Attire while Partying in 20 cities across Canada and the USA.
goal is to further the frontiers of Partying, bring joy to millions of
people and ensure that Partying is respected, legitimized, and forever
enshrined as a spiritual movement of paramount importance.
plan to take the DDP to Every Single Country On The Face Of The Earth
and inspire as many people as possible to create their own DDPs and
ensure that this becomes an enduring global movement that touches as
many lives as possible.
Once that is complete, we will host a
Simultaneous World Dance Party, transmitted to everyone in the world at
the same time. It will be fun. You are invited.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
From day one, we’ve struggled to devise a reliable financing
model for the DDP and seriously depleted our savings to bring it this
far. We are out of money.
We’re very excited to have discovered
Kickstarter, and while we could have taken the traditional route and
sought out corporate sponsors, the crowdfunding model is something we
believe in and want to promote. Being completely decentralized, it's a
perfect fit for the DDP.
We just used Kickstarter to raise $1000 for the DDP On Bikes in Vancouver, the First Phase of Party Safari 2011. and $10,000 for Phase Two (Regina, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Victoria).
$20,000 fundraiser will be used to finance the Third Phase of Party
Safari 2011, wherein we will deliver the DDP to nine more Canadian cities: Thunder Bay,
Kamloops (Dates and Facebook event pages coming soon).
Then we will take the DDP to the USA. Then the 'Stans. Then the rest of the world.
All of this will be funded via Kickstarter, one step at a time, by beautiful, Party-lovers like yourself.
$20,000 will be used to
rent our motorhome and purchase all the gas, batteries, boomboxes, and
everything else required to share the joy and madness of the DDP with
the the tens of thousands expected to attend. Donations of any amount
are greatly appreciated- thanks for helping us on our quest and supporting the movement!
(PICTURES OF ALL THE AWESOME DDP REWARDS CAN BE SEEN HERE )
BREAKDOWN OF COSTS:
-Reliable Motorhome: 27 day Rental = ~$3,750, unlimited kms = ~$1,400
-6000 "D" batteries = ~$5000
-$20 Per diem payment for 7 crew members for 25 days= $3500
-100 more boomboxes for our fleet = ~ $1000
-Hotels: ~$100 x 10 nights = ~$1000
total above doesn't include the ~$3000 spent acquiring the 200
other boomboxes we're bringing along, or the production costs of the donor
rewards, or any other misc. costs (supplies, props, costumes, etc), or the 10% fee deducted by the
Kickstarter / credit card payment system.
But as long as we can
make it to $20,000, we'll somehow figure it all out, although it would
be amazing to exceed the $20,000 goal and at least break even. With your
support we will realize our crazy dreams and make Party
If we don't reach $20,000, PARTY SAFARI WILL NOT HAPPEN.
Spread the word- it's in your hands :)
