I go by "The Dark Arts" and LIGHT/SHADOW/COLOR is a celebration of five years of my bondage photography.
This will be a 300 page hardcover coffee table book featuring a wide spectrum of my work. Models of all sizes, shapes and genders from all over the world will grace the pages of this deluxe, first edition 9" x 12" collection. The book will have a printed dust jacket over a fabric wrapped hard case and each copy will be individually shrink wrapped before shipping to keep it pristine. Up until now these photos have only been available to view censored on my Instagram page and uncensored on my Patreon page. Now you can help fund my first book and have this amazing collection of fine art bondage photography for yourself!
Shibari, the Japanese term for rope bondage, is the art of tying a body with rope. Nothing more nothing less. Many people incorporate bondage into sexual play but there's plenty of times when bondage is just something nice to look at. A body tied in rope can be beautiful, evocative, striking, artistic, sexy or all of the above. My photography aims to capture human bodies tied into shapes and poses that stimulate your entire brain.
I've worked with models from all walks of life. Some people in the book are world famous performers and others are everyday people who had never been tied or photographed before. Bondage intrigues all kinds of people, and I love shooting pro models and daring civilians equally.
The vast majority of bondage photography is dark, usually on black or grey backgrounds, and very ~serious~. When I started evolving my photographic aesthetic, I made a deliberate decision to incorporate all the colors of the rainbow and to try my best to represent all kinds of people. While the majority of models who approach me are cis women, I am always on the lookout for men, trans and genderfluid people of all racial backgrounds who want to shoot. I also love using bright colored backdrops and lighting to create images that nobody has seen before in bondage work. You’d be hard pressed to find a portfolio of bondage work with this much variety in terms of models and concepts.
- In addition to the photographs, the book will also feature fan art. Talented artists from all over the world have used my photos for inspiration and I wanted to celebrate that by dedicating a section to their amazing work.
- Every person who pledges to this campaign will get their name in a special “Thank You” section at the back of the book. You will get to choose what name you want there so if you want to use a fake name instead of your real one I can make it happen! A survey will be sent to you when the campaign ends to get this info from you. If you never send the survey back you won’t go into the Thank You section!
You'll find here a wide selection of rewards to suit your interests. From a simple digital version of the book to framed prints to personal photo sessions or classes, there's something there for you! Make sure to take advantage of the limited earlybird special to save $5 off the book! Feel free to contact me with any questions about any of the rewards. Note that some items have restrictions on where they can be shipped and shipping rates to many countries outside the US have additional costs. See the shipping section below for more info.
For the print rewards, I am offering one high quality print of your choice from the twelve options below. Prints can be loose or framed. Loose prints are 12”x18” or 4"x6", framed prints are 10” x 15” with matboard, black satin MDF frame, UV coated real glass and mounting hardware. Framed prints are 10” x 15” because that is the largest size frame available with real glass that can be shipped from the printer. I want these frames to be nice quality and plexiglass just doesn’t cut it! Note that the print in the frame is 10” x 15”, not the frame! The mat board is 2” wide so the frame is more like 15” x 20” in total size.
All prints are printed professionally on Kodak Endura Luster paper. Prints are only able to be shipped to the US and Canada!
If you want more prints or framed prints, please message me and we can make it happen.
Instax prints are shot on instant film (like Polaroid) and measure 2” x 3.25”. These are shot during the photo sessions and no two are alike. A truly one-of-a-kind item! These will be selected at random.
ALL THE THINGS!
This reward gets you all three physical items: a loose print, a framed print and an Instax! Make sure to specify which print you want framed and which one you want loose!
LESSON AND MODELING REWARDS
As you may or may not know, I don't do classes, seminars, appear at conventions or rope parties. I keep my profile low and am a pretty big homebody. These reward tiers are rare opportunities to learn some of my techniques in both photography and shibari rope bondage. You can come to me or I can come to you and teach you about rope bondage (including crucial safety aspects), photography tips or just photograph you in rope.
If you want to come to my studio, you have to pay your own travel expenses. You cannot stay with me!
If you want me to travel to you, you have to cover my travel expenses including air fare, lodging (no I will not stay in your place) and modest travel expenses for meals, incidentals, etc. Please message me to inquire about this before you pledge and I can give you an estimate based on where you live. I have a passport and love travelling so I will go anywhere in the world (though Antarctica might be a little chilly for bondage)! All my travel expenses must be paid for up front and transferred to me so I can purchase my tickets and lodging.
For lessons or shoots where you want to be the rope bottom/model, I welcome any and every body shape, size, age and gender identity. We can work out something that works for everybody! I will also discuss the safety aspects beforehand to make sure everybody is properly briefed. For lessons with a model that is not you, I will find a suitable person myself and handle their compensation. If you want to do the pledge as a gift for somebody, make sure they know about it beforehand. Surprise nude bondage appointments are not advisable.
If you are wanting to be photographed, you will have to decide if you want the photos to be public and out in the world or private and retain the rights and master files yourself. If you choose to make them public, you will have to sign my standard release form that grants me full rights to the photographs.
PLEASE NOTE: you will have one year from the end of the campaign to schedule a lesson/shoot. If nothing is scheduled within a year I will assume you are no longer interested in a lesson or shoot and will schedule nothing further. NO REFUNDS ON MODELING OR LESSON REWARDS.
WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING
The funds raised from this campaign will cover the following expenses:
- design, production and printing of the book
- production of rewards (prints, framing, etc…)
- freight costs of shipping the books from the printing facility to the shipping fulfillment facility
- shipping of the book and rewards to pledgers (fulfillment service and postage fees)
- shipping of the book to every model and artist featured in the book
- Kickstarter and payment processing fees
- IRS/tax (Kickstarter money is considered income)
Whatever is left over will be considered profit for all the hard work!
If for some crazy reason this campaign is wildly successful beyond projections, I will figure out a nice additional gift to include with all physical rewards. Probably a cool vinyl sticker or something. There’s not a lot of physical items that seem to make sense along with a bondage book, especially since I am not a company, nor am I a company that makes products. Tshirts are a huge pain to do as gifts with all the sizes and stuff, plus who wants a bondage T-shirt anyway? It will probably be stickers but I am open to suggestions!
I will also set aside a portion of money and divide it equally among all models featured in the book. In this instance it may end up being $50 each or it might be hundreds. It completely depends on how much money this raises but the distribution will be fair and the models will all get something if the campaign goes above and beyond.
The book printer will take roughly two months to complete the order, then the books must be shipped to the fulfillment facility, packed and sent off to the pledgers. If this campaign successfully ends on schedule that would mean books could ship at the beginning of March 2018.
Prints and Instax will be printed and shipped immediately after the campaign concludes. Likely delivered by the end of the year, but don’t hold me to that.
I have secured a shipping fulfillment company to handle delivery of the book. This will ensure speedy and well-packed deliveries to everybody no matter where in the world they are. I have done my best to fold shipping costs into the pledges, and have worked out a way to offer free US shipping for the book, but international shipping rates are high to begin with, and for a 300 page book that weighs 5 pounds free (or even cheap) international shipping is just not possible. Shipping the book to Canada will cost an additional $25 and anywhere else in the world will be $40. I wish there was a way to ship this book cheaper, but there isn't! I worked closely with the shipping fulfillment company to get the lowest price I could, and that is the best anybody can do.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: some countries might deem the material in this book inappropriate and intercept it at customs. Neither I or the fulfillment service are responsible for a refund due to any interception of the shipment, destruction of the book or other interruption or cancellation of the shipment to countries outside of the US and Canada. It is up to you to be familiar with the regulations of the country in which you live!
Prints, framed and unframed, can ONLY BE SHIPPED TO THE US AND CANADA. Sorry, but there are no efficient ways to ship prints to any other country. Apologies, but that's the reality of it. Prints will be shipped directly from the photo printer after I send in the order.
Instax prints can be sent anywhere in the world.
All models appearing in the book and on this crowdfunding page were over the age of 18 at the time of the shoot and have signed release forms clearing rights for me to use these photos without limitation.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges with this book project are minimal. The book is already laid out, the printer is already secured and aware of what the book is and how/when to print it, the shipping fulfillment service is hired and ready to roll. Should I drop dead at some point during the campaign or shortly thereafter, an authorized representative will facilitate either refunds or completion of the shipments!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
