We're the Cybertronic Spree: a band of rockstars in disguise! Yes, we're Transformers, but more importantly, we're musicians and friends (and enemies) who play music from The Transformers: The Movie soundtrack. But we're way more than meets the eye: we play music from films, anime, video games, classic rock -- you name it. Anything that gets us pumped! We blend our love for the ’80s and ’80s metal into an energon-fueled, kick-ass live show!
Meet our lineup of rogue robots:
With the power to light your darkest hour, front-bot Hotrod sings and plays a mean bass. Arcee is our instrument of destruction on keys and vocals. Quintesson is on triple duty, providing backing vocals, keys and wailing guitar. Devourer of worlds, Unicron, just destroys on an 8-string guitar, while Rumble and Shockwave keep it heavy on the drums with both thunder and lightning. Our resident hype-bots, Soundwave and Bumblebee play keys, dance, and keep the party going strong.
We admit, we're an unlikely alliance and our individual motives remain hidden but we're brought together by the power of rock and nothin's gonna stand in our way!
None of our logic circuits could imagine that six years after our first performance in 2013, we'd be bringing the power of Transformers: The Movie soundtrack to more audiences than ever. We've travelled all over North America, made some fun videos, and even started writing our own songs, like Cybertronic Warrior, for an upcoming original album that we continue to work on...when we're not rocking out, fighting each other, or both.
The truth is, we’ve been able to do this thing we love so much because of the awesome support of our fans. They are the sparks in our matrix keeping us fully functional!
We're making a polished studio album of all 10 songs from the original Transformers: The Movie soundtrack. We're calling it Transformers 1986. We're going to capture all the energy of our live shows and put it onto recorded physical media: Compact Disc. We hear it's the latest in Earth technology! These 'CDs' will be available to humans all over the world as a Kickstarter exclusive pre-order, so once they're gone, they're gone.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? Well...
Transformers: The Movie is arguably the best soundtrack on Earth. Period. The emotional connection humans had with the film in the 80s is legendary. These are songs that excite us. These are songs that unite us. These are songs that have the power to turn our days from bad to good. They give us the encouragement we need to do good in this world. It's a power so strong, we stopped fighting each other and started a freaking band!
We thought it would be rad to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie by putting out our own rocking versions of these hits!
This will be our first studio album, and it just feels right to start with what inspired us to join forces in the first place, while we continue to write our own original material together.
Also, it's something fans have been asking us for since we started!
Above all, we're here to help keep the legacy of TF:TM alive and we think there's enough humans out there that feel the same way we do.
This Kickstarter is your chance to take a piece of The Cybertronic Spree home with you. It’s something you can enjoy any time, anywhere. And there's some great swag that we'd like to make to help mark the occasion!
Let's meet some Humans!
Greg is a talented musician, composer, recording artist, and Human. He also has a weakness for robots from the 80s, so he has offered up his skills. He'll be recording the band, mixing the album, and making sure it sounds perfect to human ears. You can check out some of his awesome work here.
Tim is also a Human from Earth. You might know him! He's done some amazing illustration work with IDW, Marvel, Image, Hasbro, and Metallica. He was one of our earliest supporters and we're lucky to have him. He even made our first-ever exclusive 'Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction' style T-shirt and poster!
This time around, Tim will be doing the cover art for the album. What's more, this artwork will be made into a beautiful hand-screened poster for backers!
After careful scientific analysis by both Shockwave and the Quintesson, who weighed the pros and (decepti)cons, we determined crowdfunding is optimal for making this project happen. Here's why:
- The band’s calculated budget for completing the project the way it deserves to be completed is greater than their current available funds. It is also not very easy for robots to get loans from a bank. They tried!
- The Cybertronic Spree has been able to continue making and playing music precisely because of fan support. This Kickstarter initiative is a pre-order, and a chance for fans to contribute to the ongoing existence of The Cybertronic Spree.
- Crowdfunding allows us to offer you, the backer, some cool stuff through the reward tiers for your kind and generous support. The band may be recording this album, but you’re making it happen.
- We get to stay true to our vision of these songs without having to compromise. We admit we are robot control freaks!
First and foremost, you get the band’s sincere spark-felt thanks. But more than that, backers who pledge a minimum of $12 will get a digital download of Transformers 1986 on August 8, 2019. That’s the 33rd anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie.
Pledging $27 will get you an exclusive pressing of Transformers 1986 on Compact Disc - the most high-fidelity sound medium the band has discovered (from the 80s, remember). The album cover art will be illustrated by internationally acclaimed artist Tim Doyle of Nakatomi Inc.
For $35, you’ll get a CD and an exclusive sticker sheet that you can use to decorate your toys, computers, pet rocks, and vehicles. Like everything else we are doing here, this sticker sheet will never be made available outside of this campaign.
Do you want the band to autograph your CD? We’ve got good news for you, then. At $45, you’ll get everything up to and including this tier, but with the added bonus of having the entire band autograph the CD!
Those who pledge $60 will get an exclusive iron-on patch along with every other reward from previous tiers. You can use this patch on your best jean jacket, your book bag, or you can keep it as a memento of that time you helped make robot dreams come true.
If you’re a fan of exclusive screen-printed posters, this next reward tier is for you. At $100, you will get all previous tiers plus a beautiful hand-screened poster measuring 18”x 24” featuring the art of the album cover, illustrated by Tim Doyle, on holographic foil stock. Screening will be done in Austin, TX by the poster design and printing experts at Nakatomi Inc. This will be shipped separately from the rewards in previous tiers. Whoa dude!
For $150, you will get everything from every previous tier AND have your name included in the special thanks section of the album’s liner notes!
Think you can play a mean cowbell? PROVE IT. For $500, one lucky supporter will get every reward from all previous tiers AND be placed on the band’s guest list (+1) for their sold-out New York Comic Con show at New York’s famed Mercury Lounge on October 5, 2019 AND you’ll get to play cowbell onstage for “Nothin’s Gonna Stand In Our Way.” PLUS, you will get to keep the cowbell! This is the same cowbell the band has been using for six years. You will own a piece of band history, help make history, and also have one hell of a time. Whoever gets this reward will need to make their own way to NYC and take care of their own meals/accommodations.
The poster, stickers and patch are still being designed so we'll have an update where you'll be able to see how cool they are once they're done.
You can help by financially supporting this project at whichever tier is most comfortable for you. Backers will receive awesome rewards in kind!
Low on funds? Help us get this transmission out! You can share this project with your friends, family, fan circles, and even your enemies! It's a great way to introduce new people to the band.
We understand humans enjoy visual representations of funds allocation, so we made Hotrod do this. It was funny, because he had to look at the Matrix of Leadership for a few hours!
The majority of funds raised raised through this campaign will support the production of this recording. This includes costs for recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, manufacturing, and paying licensing to our heroes (Stan, Vince, Al, Ernie, you guys know who you are) for the use of their songs. Your contributions will also allow us to make the cool rewards outlined above, and account for some other not-so-terribly-cool things like fees and fulfilment.
We have set the most modest goal our expenses will allow us to set. That said, should we meet our funding goal and exceed it, we have the following plan in place for how to say thank you to everyone who helps:
The details and scheduling of these stretch goals will be made public in an update at the conclusion of this campaign. Stay tuned!
As with all fundraising initiatives, there are bound to be questions along the way. If you have any you’d like the band to answer, please ask away. They will be posted on this project’s FAQ. Here's one to start:
QUESTION: What's with the funny U.S. dollar amounts?
ANSWER: The band is based out of Canada so all the reward tiers are laid out in Canadian currency. That amounts to some sweet savings for you, Humans of the USA.
We can't say it enough: we would not be here without our fans. When we decided to put this show together, oh so many parties ago, we honestly had no idea if anyone was going to care about it besides us. It is astounding to witness how many people enjoy sharing in what we're doing. We owe our continued existence to everyone that has supported us over the years by watching, listening, sharing and coming out to shows and conventions. This is why we always say we are YOUR rockstars in disguise! So thank you for everything! We hope you enjoy our tribute to our favourite soundtrack from Earth as much as we enjoy playing it.
Til all are one!
Risks and challenges
Is this a risky initiative? Let's find out!
RISK: Band members battling each other in the studio resulting in malfunction, dismemberment, or worse.
PLAN TO OVERCOME: We have a pretty good repair kit and can patch ourselves up. Happens all the time.
RISK: Crowdfunding goal does not get met.
PLAN TO OVERCOME: The band will still record this album. Indeed, we've already started! We in it! Might not get done for this year's TF:TM anniversary. Might just release it digitally. But it's something we MUST do. When it happens and how it happens are the only variables.
RISK: The world ends before we have a chance to finish this.
PLAN TO OVERCOME: LOL! We have a shuttle. LaterZ!
We don't anticipate any major challenges, but should the unexpected pop up, or should Megatron try anything, we'll be sure to communicate any issues or delays with you right away.
