We are The Coda Conduct, Penn State University’s coed a cappella group dedicated to promoting diversity on campus and expanding the members’ knowledge of music through a cappella singing. Since our establishment in the fall semester of 2012 by founders Ricky Jabarin and Trevor Johnson, we have been committed to accomplishing our mission, by participating in competitions like the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (namely, the infamous ICCAs) and performing for the Penn State as well as the local community.
As a group of musicians committed to excellence, we look forward to finding new ways to grow and develop each semester. With that said, we are happy to announce that The Coda Conduct will be recording a studio single this spring!
Recording the single will nevertheless be a big step for us, emotionally, mentally, and physically. It will require months of careful planning and practice, and hours of recording and perfecting our sound in the studio. It will also be financially demanding, since it will cost us about $1,000 to record – and as we are a young group, we need your help.
In helping us record our first-ever single, you’re helping us write our history. This step will not only help us establish our legitimacy as an a cappella group, but also give us an opportunity to translate our sound into something that is quite shareable. Having our music in the form of a recording will allow us – and you – to more easily promote our group, our values and our mission, helping shed light upon the a cappella community and the importance of diversity and music education. It will also give our members an unforgettable, valuable experience of working together towards a common goal with a tangible reward. In this process, we hope to acquire a deeper understanding of music and of each other, solidifying our bonds to become a group of friends and musicians, even stronger and prouder than before.
The single will also be a goodbye present to our graduating seniors. As they part from us for their journey in the real world, the single will serve as a reminder that they are still, and always will be, a part of The Coda Conduct, a community of friends. It will be an experience they will continue to cherish. It will also be a way for us to give comfort and love to our families and friends, from whom we may be apart.
If you choose to help our dream come true, you can rest assured that your donation will go to where it’s supposed to be, to a group that deeply cares about what we do. This is a chance for us to work hard, to better the a cappella community, and to start making a difference in our world – help us make it happen!
Risks and challenges
Although The Coda Conduct is a group of dedicated musicians, we are still students of Penn State University. Academics becomes a larger priority which may cause stress for our members during rehearsals. In addition, most of our members are very new to the process of recording a studio quality song.
To help us succeed, our executive board will work hard to keep the entire group motivated and focused while allowing our members to manage their time between academics and The Coda Conduct. We also have the support of Liquid 5th Productions who have a tremendous amount of experience with a cappella recording.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
