The Clowns is a rock opera in which the worlds of opera and rock collide! The music is based on actual opera arias.
In 2007, I started writing music for a rock opera called The Clowns. I began taking musical themes from opera arias and writing new words to go with them. I created characters to sing the songs and created a plot loosely based on the Leoncavallo opera Pagliacci. After a few years' work, I shared my songs with my colleague Matthew Dicks, a novelist who I challenged to write a script. He embraced the project and we have been working together for the past three years. The script has gone through countless revisions and songs have come and gone as necessary. In November of 2011 we were fortunate to have the Playhouse on Park in West Hartford put on a reading, and the feedback we received has been instrumental in creating our newest version of the show.
We are now at the point where the Playhouse has offered to produce a fully staged workshop, January 4, 5, and 6. In order to take it to this higher lever, we need to hire the actors and the band, instead of relying on volunteers, and that's why we've turned to KickStarter. They'll put on the show if we can fund half of the cost of the actors and the musicians. Won't you help us fund this project, and help this dream become a reality?

Creating a show takes relentless energy, enthusiasm, and drive -- faith, really. We've been pushing forward to try and make this show come to life, and we are so close. We've auditioned actors, recruited musicians, the space is reserved, and we have our directors lined up.
If we can get it to this stage, we'll know the answer that we have to know before we can take the next step: does it work? We really think it will work, and we'll be poised to go to the next level.
The show will take place at 8 PM on Friday, January 4 and 8 PM on Saturday, January 5 and at 2 PM on Sunday, January 6. There will be an opening act starting half an hour before curtain. The Clowns goes up at Playhouse on Park, 244 Park Road, West Hartford.
The Clowns is created for more mature audiences, and we're recommending 16 and up. Or you could say The Clowns is aimed at immature mature audiences. Either way, we're recommending 16 and up.
We are still in the fundraising stage, but tickets will be available through Playhouse on Park in a few weeks.
