Venue #1: Hundreds were invited to the first MIAMI PERFORMANCE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL (M/P ’12) from July 26 through the 29, 2012. On July 29, the artist prepared a meal for 400 people. Over 300 were served a bowl of fresh hot food.
The Picnic's first shopping list was: 25 Green chilies 25, 130 potatoes, 180 onions, one pound of cumin seed, one pound of cinnamon, 12 pounds of atta flour, one pound of Indian Bay Leaves, 4 cups of clove, 45 pounds of moog dal, 64 sticks of ghee or clarified butter, 19 pounds of cashew nuts, four pounds of raisins, 22 bunches of cilantro, 45 pounds of long grain rice, 4 xl canning enamel coated pots, 400 spoons, 400 napkins, 400 bowls, tin foil, 2 pounds candied Indian puffed rice, 3 xl rice cookers, 6 electric burners, 3 bowls, soap, 3 dish cloths, 2 extension cords, 40 limes, 3 gallons, of yogurt, 5 qts of mango chutney, 4 heads of napa cabbage, 60 gallons of water, mustard seed, 4 cups tumeric, one apron, and 9 chilies.
Your donation will cover some of the ingredients and equipment necessary (a project like this runs about $800 total in just ingredients and equipment. Meaning labor, rentals, utilities, time, and gas are always covered by the artist or group) not only for July 29, 2012 but also two upcoming venues.
The first installment in this series was so useful! Many establishments expressed how they liked the project and how they really wanted to contribute and donate. We have new media contacts in different food distribution companies and are now affiliated with large distributors that received produce from Homestead before they reach the retail stores.
With your help this project will grow. In the near future I want to include installments of this project in areas where those in need reside. More than a project to feed an audience I would like to be able to fund a project that addresses issues of poverty, hunger, food distribution, and care.
