The Cadillac Tramps - Life On The Edge - A Documentary
$58,701

This Kickstarter campaign's sole purpose is to help us FINISH this documentary. We are 99% shot and in the middle of editing. We have done all we can by ourselves and now need to hire a few professionals to get this story told right! A successful Kickstarter campaign not only finishes the documentary, it also brings you 3 newly recorded albums of classic Cadillac Tramps songs not available anywhere else!
"With an explosion of music coming out of Orange County in the 1990s; No Doubt, Social D, Sugar Ray, Lit and countless others, there were those whose stars rose, and others that fell on darker times. Why do some stars shine, while others shoot up into infamy? We all know the stories of the ones who made it, but there is another story that everyone should know. With so much admiration, respect and love for them from the biggest rockstars of that era, it begs you to ask yourself...who are the Cadillac Tramps and why don't I know them?”
Sean Striegel - Senior V.P. Live Nation

WHERE WILL THE MONEY RAISED GO?
THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS AN IN DEPTH BREAKDOWN OF THE INFORMATION ON THE ABOVE PIE CHART FOR THOSE OF YOU INTERESTED IN THE DETAILS.
People are always curious and often confused as to why so much money is needed to make a documentary. We understand! The world of movie making is complex and truly does require so many pieces to assemble the puzzle.
To help explain this need better, we put together a pie chart to show you what percentage of the total goal will go to what, and I will explain below what the major pieces of the pie mean in case documentary movie making isn't your area of expertise. (BTW, the majority of the costs will go to pay people to do their art and that is a total bonus! Job creation in your hands. Ain't it grand!)
Brian and I have self-funded the documentary (out of our own pockets) thus far, doing the majority of the work ourselves to keep costs down. I was the director of photography, the sound recorder, and lighting person as well as the director on all of the interviews, and because of this, we have some pretty major issues with the look (color correction) and sound (sound design) of the footage. Many people don't realize that there are people whose only job is to go through and clean up the color from scene to scene to adjust skin tones, etc., and to make the overall feel of the movie seem cohesive. Same with sound design/editing. These post effects are especially important additional costs with a documentary because your locations are extremely varied as far as available light and sound interference (airplanes, barking dogs, air conditioning, motorcycles, etc). As I stated, we have so much respect for this story that we want to do everything we can to make it look and sound beautiful!
Next, as you can see from the pie chart, editing is the biggest expense. Brian and I have already come out of pocket (along with the $7,000 raised through IFP) for half of the costs. This is an extremely important piece of the puzzle, and, as we have neither the technology nor expertise to do it ourselves, a professional is mandatory! The other day, someone asked me, "What do you need money for? It looks done already!" That is because we have an amazing editor who has worked tirelessly so far distilling my footage, which is a real challenge, into a sizzle and the Kickstarter video to help us raise funds. As you can see, the two of us working together have the ability to make something wonderful, and we are! We just need you to help us finish!
Transcription. Our wonderful friend Leah did ALL the transcription for us, watching over 52 hours of interview footage and converting sound into text (over 600 pages!), so that the story could be built out using that as a guide. It was an amazing amount of work she did on nights and weekends over a period of six months and without which I would have never been able to write the script we are now using to cut those hours of footage into a cohesive story. We are so grateful to her!
Music costs! Our wonderful friend/collaborator, Chris Furhman, with whom we have worked on and off for over 15 years (WAXAPPLES - Glitter and Grime, Intersecting(LA) ), came on board in January as our music producer/engineer to set up and record the live show album, as well as 21 studio tracks. He has been working for 8 months at an extremely reduced rate, because he believes in the project and loves The Cadillac Tramps. And we want to get him paid too!
Finally, there are always some "non-creative" costs with making a movie: contracts that need to be drawn up, paperwork that needs to be filed, duplicates that need to be printed, last minute b-roll footage that needs to be shot, film festival fees to be paid, and, let's not forget, licensing fees for music and broadcast video. We need to respect the work and intellectual property rights of those who went before us!
As you can see, there is a lot of work involved by many great and talented people when it comes to making a documentary. So many amazing people have given their time and energy to this story, because it moved them. And we want to honor them and their hard work!
Also, we want so much to tell this story the absolute best that we can, and that why we are asking for your participation in making The Cadillac Tramps - Life On The Edge! For this Kickstarter campaign, we have partnered with some great people who love The Cadillac Tramps and are willing to put their money and talent where their mouths are to get this documentary made AND to bring you guys some really cool rewards (SEE PHOTOS BELOW). We are VERY excited to share this journey with you! All of the physical and experiential rewards you see here are either our own valuable keepsakes or products/time donated by the generous people and companies listed!

Risks and challenges
The only real obstacle to fulfillment is missing our fundraising goals.
Brian and I have a long history of completing complex creative projects and already have one successful Kickstarter campaign under our belts, as well as our own version of Kickstarter back in 2007, which helped us make our final WAXAPPLES record.
Barring any unforeseen health issues that might arise, we feel 100% confident that your awards will be fulfilled in a timely manner.
Also, the documentary is essentially shot, and the Cadillac Tramps music for the new albums is 95% recorded as of 8/22/15. So the finishing funds are really all that is required to...well...finish!
