Hi all,
I hope everyone had a nice Christmas with family and friends!
We've been hard at work after arriving in Taipei. I met straight up with our supplier - they've made good progress with the final sample. It has been made to match the changes we had designed in to many of the parts to reduce weight and bulk from the sample you see in our Kickstarter video and page. We are happy to announce that the sample indeed looks more unified and feels significantly lighter and thinner than the sample that you have already seen - although we still think that looks pretty good too :)
Please note that all of the dimensions and weights shown on the Kickstarter page are still correct and the same as the product that you will receive.
We redesigned the height adjustment mechanism to fit it within the thinner profile and reduce the weight. It's designed to work just like the button on the pull out handle of your travel luggage. While the rotating support arms, sliding fingers and rotating foot are all working nicely, the height adjustment mechanism is not yet working as it should. You can see this in the short video below.
At the moment, as the height is adjusted a clicking noise is generated. Also, the mechanism is not able to support the weight that it needs to and tends to fall too easily under load. The good news is that we identified what the problem was, quickly tweaked the design of the parts involved and ordered a handful of revised components. We have great confidence the new parts will work correctly.
I chose to stay here in Taipei over Christmas to keep things moving as quickly as possible. Unfortunately the new parts have been stuck in customs for about a week - as I write this update we are still waiting on them to arrive.
I'll stay in Taipei until the new parts arrive and have been successfully installed and tested. I will not return to Australia for the New Year - before I leave I want to make sure that everything is working and that our suppliers are confident there will not be any significant issues once they start the expensive process of production tooling.
We will send out a further update in a week or so once the new parts have been installed and tested!
We have built in an amount of buffer to our schedule to compensate for events like this. At this stage it's too early to stay if this will affect the delivery schedule. We will, of course, keep everyone updated as we progress.
Thank you all and Happy New Year from Taipei!
Cheers,
Matt + Anhtai
