Work together to stop the mayor from destroying your beloved city. Play with your friends to do what Toronto can't...
What is Oust The Mayor?
Oust The Mayor is a suspenseful, co-operative strategy game for 3-8 players. In it, the players control a group of councillors that must face off against a destructive mayor before he destroys the city. Players must be careful to spend their money wisely, and balance between repairing the city, protecting important places and influencing the public opinions.
How to Play!
Each player picks a character which will correspond with a location on the board. (Roger the Police officer will correspond with Emergency Services, Maxine the News Reporter will begin in Media). At the start of the game, the city will be hit with destructive blasts which your team must work together to repair while still keeping the morale of the city up.
Once the players decide who will go first, the start player will take their salary. If their space is free of damage they will receive their full salary of $1000 to spend repairing the city or influencing the public opinion to gain influence or to take influence from the mayor. If their home space has damage or is occupied by the mayor, they will have less money to start with and must rely on their partners to save them. They can also opt to activate special spaces to unlock abilities which can make things significantly easier for themselves and the team.
Included in the Game:
9 Tiles That Make the Board (4" x 5")
8 Character Cards
1 Mayor Token
30 "Boom" Cards
25 "Boom" Tokens
5 Activation Tiles
1 Influence Counter
What Are We Seeking?
We are seeking to raise $5000 to cover a part of our initial printing costs.
While this will not cover it fully, it will be a significant help especially in regards to the printing costs.
While the art right now is certainly functional, we would also be looking at hiring a graphic designer to take the game to the next level of professionalism. We want it to sparkle.
The money will be going towards our initial production and especially shipping. This is our initial project so it's a good challenge and we're really proud of the game that was created.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
There are many challenges facing us ranging from the obvious (printing costs, shipping expenses, the mandatory jokes relating to crack-cocaine) to the not so obvious (competition from other games, 'Board Game Slow Burn')
Our biggest challenges include shipping costs, especially to areas outside of Toronto which we are combating the easiest way we know how by keeping the boxes compact and light. Also, we plan on delivering most of them by hand (at least those that come from Toronto!)
We also plan to have a P&P version up and running as soon as we can figure out how to put all the fiddly bits into one solid pdf. We want this game played and enjoyed by as many people as possible!
Another big worry is that people will consider this a gimmick game. Yes, we have a mayor who is absurd... But we wanted to create a game that was fun and engaging beyond the controversy of our political character. We wanted to make a game that was good enough to stand on its own merits.
