About this project
We bought The Venue in June of 2011 with a simple but ambitious vision: to be the best place to listen to and play live music in the Treasure Valley. Up to this point, we've worked on this goal by upgrading the sound and lighting system, and cleaning out and renovating the bathrooms, dance floor and back rooms used by the bands, and reaching out like never before to the entire music community.
We've also brought in new music and performers so that The Venue can be a home where southwest Idaho's artists and fans can create and express themselves. This was a continuation of the vision of the prior owners of The Venue.
Another tradition that we've carried on is to feed touring bands a hot, fresh meal before the show. This tradition has earned us the loyalty and appreciation of countless performers who've come to look forward to a stop in Boise for some genuine Idaho hospitality.
The Beatnik Cafe
We feel that to take the next step to become southwest Idaho's best place to play and listen to live music, we should share that hospitality with all our guests. After all, what could make a show better than a hot plate of food or snack, and a cold beverage? The Beatnik Cafe will serve hot sandwiches, soups, salads, and bistro fare such as nachos, pizza, and chicken fingers. And not just in the evening, but during the day as well, giving our neighbors, friends and local students a place to come and grab a cup of morning coffee or espresso, some lunch, and an afternoon snack. Or maybe a place just to come and check out the records and merchandise of their favorite local bands and buy tickets to upcoming shows.
Beer and Wine sales for our over 21 crowd
And, although The Venue will always be all-ages, we feel it's time to give our older fans another reason to choose The Venue for their night off...that's right, we hope to be introducing beer and wine sales at The Beatnik Cafe for our fans with ID once our restaurant license is up and running.
So, what do we need? We need $15,000 to pay for food service equipment, including freezers and refrigerators, a meat slicer, ovens, and commercial espresso and coffee makers. We also need to perform renovations inside the kitchen to bring us up to code to get a restaurant license, and money to construct a space for our guests to sit and enjoy a meal during the day or before a show. Just remember, under Kickstarter's rules, if a project doesn't get full funding, it doesn't get funded at all, so let's work together to make The Beatnik Cafe a reality!
If we receive contributions over the stated request amount (around $40,000), our next-stage goal is to create a balcony space over the kitchen and cafe so our more mature fans can have a premium experience overlooking the dance floor and stage.
