Jake Green is on a mission to find and save his brother, Danny, who has been turned into a monster by a virus that plagues humanity.
The continuation of a short film of the same name, Day 5: The Web Series chronicles the lives of Jake and Danny Green-brothers struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a terrible virus.
Origin of Day 5
Hi, we're Zel and Jalen Barnes better known as The Barnes Bros. We're internet personalities, bloggers, writers, and independent filmmakers who run the YouTube channel, Barnes Bros. TV. In July, we entered a 72-Hour Film Festival competition held by internet comedy group Blimey Cow. That's when we shot and edited Day 5 the short film in two days. Watch the 4-minute film above if you haven't already, and then come back.
You watch it? Did you like it? We hope so.
We ranked #5 out of over 200 films and won Best Thriller in the contest. It was fun, and while we were shooting it we had an idea to continue the plot in the form of a web series at some point in the future. Before we could finalize our plans, a lot of our followers old and new clamored for us to continue the story they'd seen in the film, and so we decided to just jump in and confirm the web series for 2013 for Barnes Bros. TV.
If you watched the movie, then you know the story is based around the lives of brothers Jake and Danny Green. You'll also notice that the film ended on a sort of cliffhanger: Danny is infected with the Virus and Jake is taking off to find him!
Day 5: The Web Series will pick up the story immediately after the closing scene of the short film and will initially chronicle Jake's search for his brother. We can't give away more than that, but we're planning for at least six episodes for the first season. There will be a supporting cast that joins Jake on his journey, and more about the current state of the world and humanity will be explored in detail.
Now, we will say up-front that Day 5 isn't a zombie story. Sure, there are infected humans roaming the streets (and we'll definitely give them their due on camera), but that isn't the focus. We feel there are enough zombies stories that have been told or are being told in movies, television, and comics. We're not planning on retreading old ground. So, at its core, Day 5 is a story about two brothers and their bond. It's a story about faith, love, courage, and honor.
A story is no greater than its characters allow it to be, and so the characters will be the focus.
Ok, so now the question is what do we need the money for? Well, there's another reason why we wanted you to watch the short film.
That camera was terrible.
In this video here at the 2:03 mark, we show the camera that we used to record the film and a few seconds after we show the microphone we used to record the voice-over audio.
That stuff won't work for the web series. We know the equipment that we want to make this series look professional (not to mention HD) and that's what we need the money for. It'll cover the camera, audio recording, lighting, and postproduction. If you liked what we made in the short film, imagine what we can do with some real equipment!
So that about wraps it up. We're really excited about Day 5 and a lot of our followers are, too! Join us on our website to stay up to date on everything Day 5. Also, let us know what you think! Leave a comment on our YouTube videos and let us know what you would like to see in the series. If you want to support the series further, you can even buy some cool Day 5 merchandise!
Well, that's all! We look forward to hearing from you, and we appreciate your pledge.
