About this project
"Lenexa (a docu-mys-tory)" is a feature-length film that has ostensibly been in the works since 1998.
It, in the loosest sense of the word, is a documentary. Or more specifically, it is a narrative story told in the way of an Oral History.
It is centered around a character whom happens to be the only person to know the truth about a suburban legend of a buried treasure. He is a repository of stories and random anecdotes that unfold slowly, backed by interviews with others whom existed peripherally. Some can speak and attest to his claims, while some may deny what is being said, and cast doubt.
It is partly a memoir, as well as a coming-of-age tale about growing up in the mid-to-late 90's; but more than that it is a mystery. It looks back on a pre-tech existence - before social-media and fun gadgets - and looks at the ingenuity of a group of young friends, as close as brothers, whom made a name for themselves.
The story revolves around a mysterious "treasure" that is, and has been for a decade or more, mainly talked about as a myth. As the story unfolds we ever so slowly begin to piece together, not only what the treasure is, but where it is.
WHERE ARE THE FUNDS GOING?
All monies gathered for this project will go into the production of this project. Including, but not limited to, Camera & Sound equipment, Editing equipment and software. Actor fees. File-hosting fees. Production of a musical score/soundtrack. As well as entry fees for film festivals- both local, and nation-wide. And most importantly the creation and distribution of the rewards for you!!
WHEN WILL IT BE COMPLETE?
The great, yet also unfortunate, part of creating an oral document/documentary is you don't know what you need 'til you need it. The plan is to shoot regularly all throughout the year of 2013. A large portion of the film will rest on the shoulders of the main character: these portions will be filmed all year long.
Other interviews with the peripheral characters will hopefully be done in a month or two, during the summer of 2013. But we will most likely need to do some reshoots to fill story gaps, and for stylistic flairs.
The aim is to have a rough cut of the film by December of 2013.
This will be my first attempt to make anything with actual actors and dialogue. But below you can find links to several videos I have made utilizing home movies and songs I love.

Risks and challenges
This film is being created as companion piece to a novel that will be written concurrently with this film's production. As the story is written it may effect the film, or vice versa.
A grand portion of the film has been envisioned as being filmed outdoors, so a rainy Spring, or a dark Summer may delay filming. However, the format of this film (documentary) was chosen to accentuate the story, as well as expedite the production.
Sound recording errors, hard drive failures, etc. are the only possible setbacks that can be envisioned at this point. But we plan to keep every Backer updated regularly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
